    Ricketts

This thread is for Cubs fans. I've been a Cubs fan since the day I was born and baseball in my eyes is the greatest game in the world. That being said I am very saddened and frustrated in what Ricketts and Epstein are doing to team I love. They preach all this patients while they trade away quality players and create a terrible product on the field. They complain endlessly about Chicago and Wrigley and the roof tops. Ricketts you knew what you were getting into stop trying to wreck what is the beauty of the cubs and its Chicago home. Either figure it out and learn to play with the limitations the cubs have or get out and let someone else come do it.

    Go Cubs Go

I tried watching them the other day. Just too awful. Makes me sad.

    Re: Ricketts

As a White Sox fan I am sure that some Cub fans will dismiss my observations but I am thinking along the same lines as the OP. Yesterday was the home opener and all I read about was Wrigley Field! That was all of the talk. I understand it is a political issue at the moment but Opening Day should be all about baseball! I see now that the Ricketts family has started to use the phrasing of "we are trying to save Wrigley"...all propaganda in my opinion. Guess it works in some way...takes the attention off of how poor their team might be this season. When this family bought the Cubs they kept saying things like "we are just fans who bought the team" and "we will run the Cubs as we dreamed we would when we were growing up fans of the Cubs" (paraphrasing). At this point I haven't seen much difference from the Ricketts and the Tribune Co.

As a Cubs fan and a Cowboys fan I feel like I root for two teams owned by Al Davis.

Ricketts = bad for the Cubs

Epstein = good for the Cubs

Ricketts is only focusing on ways that he can make more money - he doesn't care about the Cubs winning.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

You would think that getting the Cubs to win would help him make more money.

    Yes, you would.

But Ricketts wants to make Wrigley more of a historic landmark - he wants to make money off Wrigley, not the team.

    Re: Ricketts

The Cubs are so much more than just winning games. Obvious because they don't win a lot lol Ricketts is just not a baseball man and does not get the Cubs. There is so much history in Chicago about the Cubs and he seems willing to negate that at moments notice. He just wants more video boards and money. Guy is a bum lol

    Re: Ricketts

The cubs are currently trying to build their farm system. A couple of years ago it was depleted to make a playoff run that never happened. Once Soriano and Marmol are off the books the cubs will have a lot more money to spend.

    Re: Ricketts

I saw the original post Klamath. If you think Ricketts has any part of the rebuilding process, you don't know much about how the MLB work. The owner doesn't decide the Cubs are rebuilding - that was Epsteins decision. Granted, his decision was probably based on the fact that the Cubs payroll is over $40 million less than it was before Ricketts took over.

    Re: Ricketts

Boy are you blaming the wrong people. Hendry saddled that club with so many over priced, bad contracts he left no choice but to burn the damn thing down and start over building for the future. Me, I'll take waiting a few years to build a club from the ground up that can have long term success vs. trying to overpay a few good players and MAYBE squeak into the playoffs every 4-5 years. There have been so many more bad years than good years for the Cubs anyways, whats a few more to give a guy with a proven track record like Theo to build this up the way he sees fit.

As for Wrigley, I love the place but it really needs some renovations done to it. You can renovate it without ruining the nostalgia. They have to put up wire mesh to stop chunks of concrete from falling on fans heads for gods sake! And the overhanging decks and steel beems make for some terrible sightlines. The city of Chicago has done nothing but put up roadblock after roadblock to getting a deal finalized for renovating that stadium.

    Who hired Epstein?

Do you really want to go back to bloated contracts for terrible players who are only good in their contract season? $120 million payrolls for 80 wins? It takes time to turn over a roster that was as terribly bloated as the Cubs was two years ago.

The Cubs have the absolute worst facilities in the major leagues, not just at Wrigley but everywhere.

The team is upgrading their facilities in the Dominican Republic and in Arizona. They claim to be a first-class organization, now they can actually feel somewhat like they are telling the truth.

Have patience, that team is going to be scary good in a couple of years, and if he gets you to the World Series, its going to be worth it. Speaking from the standpoint of a Reds fan, our window is already closing, and we haven't even accomplished anything yet. We need to win now because this division is going to be too hard to win a couple years from now.
