    Question about Thatch removal

Last year was my first year owning my house and I noticed I had a lot of thatch, mostly in my front yard. I went the only route I knew and took a steel rake and spent quite a bit of time just to get one small area of my front yard worked through. Does anyone know a company or how much it would cost for them to do my whole yard or a better option? Thanks

    Re: Question about Thatch removal

Some guys use a power rake, just by renting one.

I just spend a few hours with my normal thatching rake. Something like this (vs a steel rake) makes life a lot easier.Click image for larger version.

    Re: Question about Thatch removal

Any lawn care company can do it, or you can rent a dethatcher.

Know of anywhere to rent one? Also is there a best time/season to do it?

    Re: Question about Thatch removal

I've rented an aerator from home depot before. They probably have dethatchers as well. Get a bunch of your neighbors to chip in for the rental and you can all get it done for cheap.

    Re: Question about Thatch removal

I was gonna suggest aerator as well, my dad has one from like the 1950s that he pulls out every once in a while. Says something about how if it was good enough for his dad, it's good enough for him.

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

I have a small yard so it's perfect. It works very well and yes, just do it once a year in the fall.

I think the wife starts with the clippers to get it manageable, then finishes the rest in the shower.
