    Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

Perhaps I am in the minority, but for the first time in a long time (ever?) I don't see this Saturday's game as the biggest game of the year for us.

Yes, it is a big game. Yes, it is against our in-state rival. However, I don't get the feeling that the success of our season hinges on whether we beat the Hawks or not.

In year's past, I always felt that a successful season was beating Iowa and finishing at least .500 in the conference. This year, I feel that the most important thing is to win the North Division. Therefore, the game against Iowa doesn't seem so do-or-die as it has in past years.

Does anyone else have these mixed emotions about the upcoming game?

Did you watch "What buggin Andy" last night. He more or less said Cyclone fans will come out and start saying stuff like that. I agree with him. This is a huge game for us.

I would agree it is not the most vital....the other half of me wants to win it in most desperate fashion to keep my IU grad attorney neighbor from nipping at my heels (I am trying to convert his litter however!)

I share your belief, however D-Mac won't. This seems to be his Superbowl every year. Do you really feel after what the Fawks did saturday against SYR and the way we played (ISU) the last 2 games that D-Mac is going to un wrap his offense??? I think what happened Saturday was unexcusable, but watch saturday- you will see a different team play.

Exactly how is this a "huge" game for us? It's no bigger (except for us fans) than the UNLV, Toledo, or the UNI game in a few weeks. Sure it's a big game for me personally because I want to brag to all of my Iowa friends when we win but schedule-wise, how is it that huge? Obviously conference-wise this game means nothing and IMO will have little impact on where we go bowling.

Re: Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

I honestly feel that beating Iowa should be considered a big part of our season. they have had very talented teams and always seem to secure a higher ranking whether they deserve it or not. Beating them is a good measure on how our team gels. Its not our bowl game as they may say. its just a big game like playing other ranked teams. Its a proud moment, just like it is for them if they beat us. Notice how excited they get when they beat us and we arent ranked? They know we are talented as well and its a good measure for them as well.

Re: Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

While I'll always desire a win against EIU, I agree with you that this season does not hinge on a ISU victory this weekend. Will I be disapointed/frustrated/a tad P-offed if we lose? Yes, of course, but this game is not our season. Bragging rights are great. (97% of my extended family are Huckeye fans, so I take great pride in every ISU victory.) We need to play hard this weekend but we really need to take care of business in the Big 12. Prove the pundints wrong and win the North and steal a victory or two from the South and that will be worth a loss to EIU. (I CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST WROTE THAT LAST SENTENCE!!!...please o please...Beat The Hawks!!!!)

Re: Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

it used to be beatig iowa was the only thing that mattered because we couldnt count on winning any other game but now if you think its still a one game season then you havent been watching ISU football for the last 10 years the tides have changed we are after confrence titles now, not cy-hawks. beating iowa is just icing on the cake

Re: Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

3-0 then 4-0 going into the Texas game. That is huge. Natoinal audiance watching us.

Now 3-1 only beating UNLV, Toledo, and N. Iowa going into the Texas game. Not so big since we have not beat anyone with a pulse yet.

That is why this is huge.

Re: Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

Iowa will be the first ranked team that we play, and have a good chance to beat. This is a huge game and alot of people will be watching this game, and we could get some great recognition out of it. Everyone likes to see the underdog win!!!

Re: Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

Need to win the North this year or next. This year would be easier woith the problems in Colorado and KState. We have not won the North yet. We have beaten Iowa. Losing to UNLV or Toledo or UNI at home would be a worse blow than losing to Iowa. We do not want Shreveport. We want San Diego. Did we ever win the Big Eight? What is the Vegas line on the game? Nuff said.

Not possible. We're at Texas before UNI.

    CycloneDrew-

I did not see "What's Bugging Andy". Did he have a reason for why he thought Cyclone fans would start saying this?

I'm not saying that this isn't a big game -- it's a ranked opponent for crying out loud. I just don't see this game as being the end-all that I have viewed it in the past.

    Thanks!

Re: Iowa Game -- Not Critical?

The thing that bugged me last night on TV was the guy said something to the extent of the Iowa game is one of the most important games of ISU's season... where as to UofI... losing to us doesn't effect their season. How should things be any different?

Losing to us doesn't affect their conference standings... Losing to them doesn't affect our conference standings. In the end... I would say it should hurt them more because if they lose to a lower ranked team, it will hurt their chances for the rediculous prediction to be in the Rose bowl...

Yeah, it's the entire state of Iowa's bowl because depending on which fan you are... you get bragging rights(complaining rights for Iowa fans) for an entire year. So it's and important game... but critical for the season??? I just see it as a game to prepare us for big 12 play.
