Imagine that! Although i don't think its just the Pac 12 that's having this problem.

I think the NCAA should oversee officiating with an iron first. Mark Emmert would lay the smack down on ****** officials.

In other news, Tom O'Neill accepts $30,000 for throwing the ISU-Kansas game.

He would lay the smack down on the two or three that target big names while turning a blind eye to the others. Then a few months later it would turn out the NCAA's investigation was marred with improprieties and those refs would get off with a small fine. After an internal review Emmert and the NCAA would clear themselves of any wrong doing and we are back to where we are now.

Re: Pac-12 Officiating In BIG Trouble

Jumping Jesus on a Pogo Stick! Nothing is going to come of this. NOTHING! Don't you know this already?

When the NCAA/Conference got involved in a situation where an assistant coach/former assistant coach was actually RAPING underage boys in the locker room, there was controversy and some people said "The NCAA/Conference shouldn't get involved in this".

Why would you think that an official targeting coaches or players for bogus calls would be any more deserving of action? Besides, UCLA benefitted from this situation. Obviously, in order for anything to get done in college sports today, you would have to demonstrate that a relative nobody like LaSalle or FGCU benefitted from the bogus calls.

Um, because it involves competition (the thing the NCAA oversees) rather than the law.

Re: Pac-12 Officiating In BIG Trouble

What surprises me the most is the conference response to it. They play it off like it is no big deal. This is a huge deal, I think. You have now alienated the entire fan base of arguably your best team next year. You don't think Arizona fans will think of this all of next season?

The conference should have come out stronger against this. Poorly played from a PR standpoint.

Stay silent Bob. Completely different situations.

In order to act on this, they would have to admit that their officiating was biased against one particular coach. That admission would open the floodgates to a whole "If it happened once, how many times has it happened in the past?" discussion.

Just like on "Law & Order" or "CSI: Council Bluffs", when the crooked cop wants to cut a deal quietly and threatens to open the floodgates on all his previous convictions as leverage. The conferences and the NCAA benefit from the assumption of objectivity. Admitting otherwise would threaten their stranglehold on the sport and jeopradize their billion dollar paydays from the TV contracts. THAT is why they will stonewall and deny.

Re: Pac-12 Officiating In BIG Trouble

Yeah this is a big problem. You all understand that without the condition of autonomy by our referees and anyone else directly impacting time, distance and fairness - sports as you know it are ****ed! This isn't something you simply address by saying it was in jest!!!!! I'd be furious if I were Arizona. I would demand an investigation, removals and a plan going forward. I'm starting to think every conference should look into this crap.

Referees and heads of referees determining outcomes of games will more quickly become the interest of the law than, ummm, the competition that the NCAA oversees. Nice word, oversees.

Re: Pac-12 Officiating In BIG Trouble

What if you heard this about the Big 12 refs and meetings in regards to Fred under the same circumstances? Some of you guys have got your heads in your *****. I reread, nobody really has their head in their ***. My bad.

Yeah, Sean Miller and Dana Altman are now the primo coaches for the PAC 10. UCLA and USC are newbie country. This way to target coaches means it is a black mark for all ref associations. What a low life coming from the NBA and then acting like he has a fiefdom to push around.
