    1997 Baylor Game

Sorry to bring up memories of one of ISU's worst football seasons in history on this lovely April fools day, but this off-season has me curious. I didn't follow ISU back then (I was 4) but I have always been intrigued by that fateful day in Jack Trice. I knew about the students taking down the goal posts after the season's only win, but the magnitude of such an event didn't really hit me until ISU was mentioned in an episode of Blue Mountain State regarding riots after football games. I'm just wondering if anyone has any pictures or videos or information on it, since I can't seem to find anything. To those of you who were there and participated in the post-game festivities, I applaud you.

That wasn't the most fateful day regarding Baylor in JTS.

I think that's the game I was at. It was effing freezing. There were a ton of people dressed as empty seats and you could walk into the stadium and basically pick whatever seats you wanted.

I missed that game. Only game I missed all year. GF at the time made me go see Stomp with her. One of the worst girlfriend trade-offs ever...

That year was the building blocks to the 9-3 season in 2000. We started a lot of freshmen in 97 including Reed and Hayward and others. I recall (I think) Breon Ansley getting ejected for spitting in the face of a Baylor player after a tackle. And Dustin Avery 90 yard int return. Good win for a LONG season.

My Dad told me back in the day when it there was piles of snow all over the stadium in almost a blizzard like event, you could just walk thru the gates without having to shuffle through your pockets to show your ticket to the ushers.

The Dustin Avey int return was in the Colorado game, in which we blew a 28-10 halftime lead before losing 43-38. Iowa State Falls Just Short Against Colorado - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

I will never forget that game. Was miserable weather. Cold and rain. I was a jr in HS at the time and was up in the pressbox job shadowing Pete Taylor. He had to leave at halftime for the only airtime he ever missed as his daughter was getting married that afternoon. Rich Fellingham took over the rest of the game. He and Eric were doing play by play at the end of students getting taken down by security. So many empty seats that the atmosphere at JTS was anything but electric.

    Re: 1997 Baylor Game

Freshman year, only win we had. Us players were encouraging the students to take down the goal post. Students ripped down the goal post, marched them down Lincoln Way and threw them in Lake Laverne.

It also happened to be the last day of Daylight Savings time for the year and coach Mac told us we had an extra hour to party that night, lol.

I was a freshman the following year. I think we were 3-8, but you could feel the tide turning (same with the following year).
