Tubby is the man at Tech

I will go on record saying that this will probably limit them to mediocrity. Certainly more stable than what they've been going through but recruiting will be tough...for anyone.

I wish I was in a job where I could go anywhere even after I get fired. Coaching...what a sham.

Funny how Tubby gets MN to the same place as ISU in the tourney and gets fired and dreamy gets a raise. Just interesting to see the various program expectations.

Go could go anywhere after getting fired from coaching- possibly even sell satellite dishes.

Thats because Fred hasn't shown a tendency to crash and burn during the second-half of every basketball season. Minny sneaking into the tourney as an 11-seed this year was pretty terrible given the amount of talent and expectations they had for that team.

I think him getting fired more had to do with his team consistantly tanking the last half of the season.

If Tubby can bring them up to average it will be a major success....

Re: Tubby is the man at Tech

Great hire by Tech. He will be able to get kids to go there and while they might not ever be great, they will be competitive and make the NCAA tournament here or there.

He's won a national title and he's taken every team he's ever coached to the tournament (Tulsa, Georgia, Kentucky, and Minnesota). He's not a great coach but he's a good coach who had some bad luck while at Minnesota.

I think TT will be pretty good under Smith. They have some decent players and think they could be a middle of the pack team.

Re: Tubby is the man at Tech

I think Chris Walker deserved the job personally. He was put into such a crap season but he at least won some games for them and made them competitive in other games. I mean yeah, Tech was pretty horrid this season but why not give him a chance?

That said, I think Tubby will get Texas Tech to a respectable level. He obviously can coach, but isn't the greatest recruiter. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tech make the NIT next season. They have a ton of young players returning

good point. i'm glad TTech didn't go with a stud recruiter connected to texas recruits, someone like Chris Walker. I wonder if Walker goes back to working for Alford and goes to UCLA?
