    Re: Thoughts?

poly sci has no hard skills to market when you graduate because it's a field based on relationships, etc. unless you had great internships while in school it won't get you anywhere right outta college. business is such a broad field and many employers now want MBAs(!). I would focus on finance or accounting and you'll be set after you graduate.

Definitely go with political science. Politics is broken, it could use all of the help it can get. And with the brilliance you show around here on a regular basis I bet you could really do some good. Save us RollsRoyce, the world doesn't need more accountants.

    Re: Thoughts?

Most decent jobs you can get with PS require using it to go to law school or getting a masters in public administration. Unless you are sure you want to do one of those two things, become a CPA, there seems to be an abundance of jobs for them.

    Re: Thoughts?

Depends on if you want a job. My profession is as an Accountant, but I have Master's in Public Administration (housed in the Poli Sci dept). My accounting friends have jobs. The ones from Poli Sci are struggling mightily in the job market.

The Masters in Public Administration doesn't help much unless you have some experience (only worked for my friends who extended internships with either gov't or nonprofit entities and turned it into a full-time spot).

Oh, and fyi, last I had heard, ISU was shutting down its MPA program, but that was before the whole Harkin Institute thing blew up.

Maybe not, but Poli Sci would not work there either. A lot of PS students go into the military.

Accounting or finance...either one will set you up for a job.

This...about 6 years ago SCM had a 90+% job placement with avg. salary around 45k...with MIS background mfg companies will be salivating over you. (Even with mediocre grades. 3.0 or higher)
