Iowa State Spring Practice in Eastern Iowa

In lieu of some people on both sides bringing into question Iowa's decision to hold a spring practice in Cyclone territory (DSM) at WDSM Valley during Iowa State's Annual Spring Game. How would you feel if Iowa State were to hold a spring practice in Eastern Iowa (such as a HS in Cedar Rapids?)

I've heard the reasons why (such as giving fans on other side of state a chance to watch the team.) ISU does have a big following in Cedar Rapids despite it being Hawkeye territory (much like Des Moines being Cyclone territory.)

I'll say I do not necessarily believe the "conspiracy" that Iowa decided to hold it on the same day and time as ISU's game on purpose, but I'm more focusing on just the decision to have it in that location.

For one, DSM is not Cyclone territory. However, anywhere in Eastern Iowa is Hawkeye territory.

    There was one?

Have it at Kingston Stadium in CR, it would be great. Just let Cedar Rapids city crews know they need to secure all poles and stop signs.

What about having it at Iowa City West on April 26th? Then those that wanted to go wouldn't have to travel far off I-80.

Judging by turnout for the tailgate tours, I think you are wrong about that.

Some people would show up, I don't think it would be as big of a turnout as Iowa gets in Des Moines though. Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids would be the place to have it. That's where Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Jefferson, and Washington all play their home games.

I think this is true and false. I don't think they said, hey let's crash ISU spring game by holding an open practice at Valley on the same day at basically the same time. I think they decided they wanted to do an open practice in WDM just because it's good to give fans a chance to see the team besides the spring game, and the central location gives fans who might not want to make the trip to IC a shorter drive to see the team in the spring.

That said, I don't think it's a coincidence that the practice is held on the same day. If I were in Barta's/Ferentz's shoes, I'd probably say, well we're going out that way anyway; might as well run interference on ISU while we're at it.

I believe his talking about just a practice, not the Spring game. Which is what Iowa did.

To the original topic, I think it would be good. It could even grow the fanbase a little bit bringing more exposure to the team. Plus it is fun to poke Iowa in the ribs by having it in their part of the state.

Based on the tons of kids who show up for the spring tailgates in CR, I would guess the turnout for a spring "scrimmage" would quite large. I think doing it in Kingston would be awesome. We could even tailgate there!

I'm not talking about moving the Spring Game, rather an ISU spring PRACTICE. Iowa still has a Spring Game in IC, they just took a special bus trip to practice/scrimmage a little bit in Central Iowa.

And most intelligent estimates this year put the ISU Spring Game attendance around 9-10K. I didn't realize that Kingston holds 15K (it would be the place to have it) - for an ISU spring practice/scrimmage it wouldn't be anywhere near full, but Iowa didn't fill up Valley's 8K stadium either.

Their stadium is nicer, but who the hell wants to drive all the way there? LinMar is a pain to reach unless you live in Marion.
