How would you sell Iowa State to recruits?

I was wondering if you were in an ISU coaches position (basketball or football), who was trying to get a recruit, how would you sell Iowa State to them? What do you guys think would make Iowa State a great school for an athlete to come to over a big-time program. I have my own ideas/opinions, but I would like to get some others. Thanks.

Fan support. We went 3-9 and had one of the best attendace records ever.

a degree from a Top 50 National University for free after 4-5 years is a good selling point.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

You would have to sell the athlete on the coaches! They must come away from any visit feeling like they can trust that coach or the staff to help him reach his potential! They must feel good about the coaches plain and simple! Most non-urban colleges do not have much to distinguish themselves from other colleges...the coaching staff is key!

Yes, but the coaches can be gone at anytime (fired, go to another job, etc.) so that's why the majority of coaches when they make their pitch will tell a recruit make sure you like the school first, because coaches come and go.

Other than that, I'd sell them on a chance to come in and play right away. Tradition is nice, but kids today don't care about tradition. They care about who can get them the NFL/NBA, and as high as a draft pick as possible.

At Bo Schembechler's wake, Harbaugh had

story about recruiting classes. The story goes somebody asked Bo how his recruiting class was coming and he said, ask me in 20 years when these boys are men, fathers, business leaders, husbands.... Then and only then can you rate the class.

The coaches have to be able to show the kids how they will help them be better football players, and show the parents how they will help their kids be better men. The whole vision thing.

And I think having hot Cyclone hostesses works too.

While I agree that should be what athletes are told...I don't think that happens! Like it or not athletes commit to coaches...and when coaches leave the athlete is usually, not always but usually stuck. That is why they need to like the school...but the relationships with the coaches are the biggest reasons they commit to schools.

Seneca Wallace, Sage Rosenfels, Reggie Hayward, Ellis Hobbs, Tim Dobbins, Oliver Ross. There aren't too many schools that currently have two active NFL QBs.

A few years ago we had Fizer, Tinsley, Cato, Hoiberg and Shirley all active at the same time.

There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams

If u are talking about the pre game intros we have this talk it seems like at least 3 times a week and if i do remember right the guy does not snubb iowa state.. he gives his high school credit in some games and iowa state in other games.. it may even be switching every year... but after the games if they ever interview him.. alot of the time he is wearing somthing that says iowa state

    Now back to the topic...

I would sell the fact that you could be part of history in college due to the fact there is so much hype and excitement in the programs that we have and the additions to all of the buildings the last few years and future years.. and last but not least the fan base at iowa stae is like none other

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
