That's surprising. Maybe he really is done coaching now.

And Minnesota will have to go to their....what is it now? 5th option?

Yeah I thought he was their fallback guy at least. That search is not going well.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

5th choice that we know of. They have probably been turned down by other candidates that haven't been leaked to the internet yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Steve Alford has turned this job down as well. Not sure if he is having a presser to announce it or not.

If they aren't careful they will end up with Wayne Morgan after everyone else says no.

Why not Greg McDermott? I hear he has 1,426 set plays that work like a champ.

Re: Flip Saunders turns down Minnesota job

Why would someone want to coach there? They just fired a coach who took them to the NCAA tourney and had the program moving in the right direction. Not to mention that coach had won titles before arriving in Minny.

Add that to sub-par facilities and lack of rabid fan support (pro city) and that leaves you with hiring an up and coming guy or an assistant.

I would guess a coach with his pedigree didn't appreciate everyone from his alma mater saying "well, if we can't get anyone else, there is always Flip".

IF (And I mean a BIG IF) Vaughn wants to stay close to home, this is nothing but good news for us.

Re: Flip Saunders turns down Minnesota job

This actually concerns me a bit.

I wanted Flip to get the job because that would ensure that he would not be getting the t-wolves gm job for awhile.

That has always been the most concerning scenario to me. Flip becoming gm, and bringing Fred in as coach.

Interesting to see what happens next.

It's funny how coaching searches have evolved in the last 10 years or so, how public they've become. The only persons gaining from this are the coaches who are using that school for leverage in a new contract. Have to say though, Jamie still seems to keep his searches pretty private.

    This.

Tubby Smith just took them to the 2nd round of the NCAA Tourney while beating up on UCLA. And he got canned for it. Who would want to coach there?

Re: Flip Saunders turns down Minnesota job

I find it hilarious that they are getting turned down by this many coaches. if you go to there message board they have stated how much better there program is. Well if that was the case, then they would have coaches chomping at the bit to go there and coach. Good luck Minnesota, sounds like you may need it as it appears no one wants the job.
