Alford to be the next head coach at UCLA

According to Andy Katz for ESPN. Kind of shocking to tell you the truth. The Hoks will have a field day with this.

Yes ! I"m sure Alford is laughing all the way to the bank.
"Alford agreed to a seven-year deal worth $18.2 million, with a yearly salary of $2.6 million, according to Guerrero. He will receive a $200,000 signing bonus."

Congrats to him. Now he gets to prove to certain people just how stupid they were.

But didnt he feel like he got ran out of hok land? He doesnt know half the pressure he will get at UCLA. More power to him but they dont exactly sound like patient fans.

Wow man just wow. Fired a coach that took you to the final four more than once and hire one who has never been there, makes perfect sense. In a way though do we want him to have great success just to **** of the hoks?

Re: Alford to be the next head coach at UCLA

My old man was born and raised in Los Angeles and is a huge UCLA fan. Moved to Iowa 35 years ago. Now is a big Hok fan, but still loves UCLA. Alford to UCLA is like his nightmare scenario. I better call him.....

I'm shocked, but seeing this makes me think if a class Basketball program like UCLA is willing to hire him, it is seeming more and more that he had less control over the Pierce thing that we even thought. I have to believe that UCLA wouldn't have hired him unless they were convinced that he didn't create that cess pool over in eastern Iowa. Seems like a lot of evidence that it was the sleasy administration over there all along.

Oh...I think UCLA believes no one in LA cares about Iowa...the state or the U. No one is going to go dredging up crap from Iowa...that's old news.

In a way LA will be perfect for Steve....he'll blend right in there. Plus with all the other celebs they're used to people behaving like ******.

In his last year at SW Missouri he won 2 NCAA Tournament games. In the next 14 years he has won 3. That gets you an $18M contract?

Does his employment package provide for free John Deere riding mowers & suits? Or do they just assume that the boosters will take care of that under the table?
