Hoiberg as all time greatest individual within ISU basketball

His legacy is phenomenal as a player, plus his past growing up around ISU athletics.

I sincerely believe he will become the greatest coach ISU has ever had. Johnny Orr, Floyd and Eustachy were all great coaches but they weren't here terribly long (minus Orr). I could see Fred here for 15+ years and I would bet money he gets us to a couple final fours before his time is done.

Who will be able to compare with the legacy he will leave at Iowa State and the Ames community?

So happy we have him here for at least 10 more years!

Re: Hoiberg as all time greatest individual within ISU basketball

When I was growing up (I'm around Fred's age), it was my dream to become a great athlete and play for Iowa State. Would not have mattered who wanted me as long as they did.

Then Fred came along and did just that, and was an immediate impact player, then star, and conducted himself with the utmost class as he went on to success in the NBA. For that, legend is the only thing that comes to mind. My favorite Iowa State player among a field of worthy candidates.

Now, on top of that, he comes back out of nowhere, after what seemed like a long period of decline, and brings passion and prominence back to the program? It's the stuff of storybooks.

I'm only 37, so I grew up watching Hoiberg and yes, I agree with you that he is the greatest ever individual within ISU basketball, but I don't want young Cyclone fans to forget about Gary Thompson. Gary was an All-American player at ISU who has done so much for Iowa State and ISU athletics, that it shouldn't be forgotten. The torch has been passed and Freddie is the face of our beloved university, but please don't forget about Gary. He's a great man and great ambassador for ISU.
