Should he speak or should he go?

Obviously one of the hot topics right now is the Farentz to Michigan rumors/speculation. I know it's impractical for a coach to come out and say he's not interested every time a rumor comes up but after a week of rumors that have caused yet another split in an already fragile and fractured fanbase, shouldn't KF at least release a written statement saying he's staying at Iowa and has big plans for the future?

I see both sides of this and understand that sometimes it's best to ignore rumors but I also have to think it's starting to hurt more than just the fans by keeping quiet. Two of Iowa's big recruits just decommitted this past weekend (possible related, possibly not) and the fans are already up in arms because of the bad season and off-the-field issues.

Anyways, what do you guys think. Should KF at least come out and squash the rumors or should he stay quiet and hidden like Dick Cheney in a bunker in the fetal position?

Hey, at least we have an idea where Dick Cheney is. He just got his heart zapped back into rythm.

You'd think Michigan with their history, tradition and money could land a better guy than KF.

Whew - with shotgun deer season opening this weekend, I was a little afraid to go outside.

You know your fanbase is up in arms over this deal - so why not say "I'm not interested in that job"?

    Unless, that's not true.

At least so far he's not doing the Saban thing, saying "not going there" and then going there weeks later.

Saban only sees dollars and cents......and motivational speech videos about using terrorist attacks.

Re: Should he speak or should he go?

Well that's just it, I guess when it becomes this big of a story you owe it to the fans, coaches, players and recruits to deny it unless there's some truth to it. There have been coaches that have never recovered from things like this once their fans started to doubt them and with Iowa fans already up in arms, it wouldn't be out of the question to think they'll never forgive him even if he does stay.

This is a myth and propaganda. It is well known that Cheney doesn't even have a heart.

I was waiting for that. Even the Grinch had a heart.

I would like to think that if the leader of my athletic department was rumored for a job he'd come out and put the kabosh on it. If he has no interest then no harm, no foul.

All he's doing is feeding the frenzy.

It's pretty fun being on the outside looking in.

Re: Should he speak or should he go?

Personally, I love Ferentz as the Iowa coach. Or at least I did. These rumors aren't just message board fabrications any more, and although KF seems to be a class guy, and doesn't usually address rumors, it's time to come out and say something unless they're true.

The points that the Iowa fan base right now is fractured is dead on. Lick has done a good job of re-uniting a fractured basketball fan base (even though they still don't show up to games like they should), but KF is really letting things go to hell in a hand basket by not responding to some of these things.

If I were a college football coach, my policy would be to never acknowledge or speak about coaching rumors, whether or not they're true. It puts you in a bad spot.

Re: Should he speak or should he go?

Reminds me a bit of McCarney last year... (different circumstances but...) He finally had to break the silence for the sake of the program.

KF maybe needs to consider doing the same

How similar is this to the rumors surrounding Floyd before he left for the Bulls? I was paying attention at the time, but my memory is failing me. Can we draw any parallels?

I agree it puts you in a bad spot but in this case not speaking about it puts you in a grave.
