Nice peek-in to the changes we have coming to the offensive line unit. I hope that Shaban Dika can stay healthy and if he's as good as everyone says, maybe he can anchor the most improved unit in the Big 12 next fall!

We need the O-line to improve against physical d's that bring a lot of pressure or we're not going to improve... Ever.

I didn't know the Coach K's background was OC at Nevada. Why is he our line coach and not an OC somewhere? Nevada has had some potent offenses.

The crux of running a successful pistol set offense is with the offensive line.

To me, having Sturdy and Klenakis on the staff makes it easier to let go of Mess if that should ever happen. Not saying it should by any means, but Rhoads is covering his bases with those two in line.

Re: Blog: Iowa State's new-look offensive line

I think it says a lot on why our line was shaky last year that our starting guards from last year both moved to starting tackle. We knew they were playing out of position but I think they did the best they could having to play out of position. Guard and Tackle are very different in how they are played.

Best case scenario, Mess acts as a game manager and blends the prolific passing attack Sturdy knows how to put together with the effective running game that Klenakis had a hand in developing.

Is that likely to happen? I'm not sold yet. I think the offense showed flashes of what it could be, but the offense stalled after the first quarter in almost every game last year. So yeah, having two experienced OCs with very different areas of expertise on staff is a great backup plan if the Messingham experiment doesn't work out.

Umm...no. Best case scenario, we have an offense at least reminiscent of the performance against Kansas, and everyone stops nitpicking at our coaches.

Re: Blog: Iowa State's new-look offensive line

I'm more excited about new coaching and new formations with the O-Line than any other aspect of our FB team. I feel we have wasted a lot of talent in our skill positions the last few years.

Both Coach K and Coach Rhoads are from Nevada! One the state university and one just east of Ames.

Seriously, I doubt if Coach K came here to fail. He must have seen something with the offensive line that he could work with. And he already seems to be making some bold moves to put things in place as he wants them to be.

Anybody know if it was just OC in name and the head coach did the play calling at the time? Also he was unemployed when we got him, so its not like it is that bad of gig he landed. Either way I think we found a hell of a coach for our offensive line and think we will see a difference.

Re: Blog: Iowa State's new-look offensive line

If our o-line is good, we will be good. Last year it wasn't, and neither were our backs, which made a our QB's bad (and the receivers didn't help either). We should be in good shape especially with no QB competition.
