Grantland: 'ISU fans are some of the most tortured..."

Refers to our familiar topic of losses to eventual champion in tourney and 12-13 crushing defeats; plus the "foul or not foul" thing (Roughly the 4th & 5th Q's down the page):

Mark Titus is pretty funny. He was a walk-on at Ohio State a few years ago who became semi-famous for being a walk-on at OSU and writing a blog about it and parlayed that into writing an actual book about his 4 years on the bench. I read it last summer and it's a good, quick read. His sense of humor can be pretty sophomoric, but he knows the game and writes about college basketball pretty well without being too over the top in his OSU homerism.

I've read his MBB stuff throughout the season, fairly steady & entertaining.

In his previous post, he admitted his homerism regarding The Blarge in ISU-OSU game. Outside of my own homerism, I'd agree with him to a large degree (He says it was the wrong call and had impact, but wasn't absolutely a game-changer.) (see No. 2):

    Overanalysis of charge is ridiculous.

To show it isn't a favoritism issue, he immediately follows it with how officials don't know how to call it properly (Point 3).

I did't need to read that this morning.

“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.”

I just regressed back to Sunday night and the feeling of wanting to punch someone, so thanks for that.

I liked this quote as well.
For those who missed it, Jake Lorbach of Ohio State ran onto the court to celebrate after Craft hit the game-winner, which would have been perfectly acceptable except there was still time on the clock. The referees would’ve been justified in giving Ohio State a bench technical. But since refs hate Iowa State, no tech was called and Lorbach narrowly avoided having to find his own ride back to Columbus.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

I also hadn't read that part when I originally posted the link.

Now that would've been something if officials had called a T there, and ISU won. (Granted it would still have required a miracle basket after FTs)

Imagine the parallel universe right now.

Did anyone see the Iona - Manhattan conf tourney game? Iona up 8 with 4 secs left. Manhattan hits a 3 to end game and Iona wins by 5 right? Wrong. Refs went to replay, determined that there is .01 sec left. Issued a Technical to Iona due to players leaving the bench. Manhattan makes both T free throws, ball gets thrown in and Iona wins by 3. Oh...and Iona was favored by 4. So it isn't out of the question that refs make this call, but seems interesting they made it in this one.

Seeing the OSU walk-on sprint onto the court Sunday after Aaron Craft hit the buzzer-beater made me wonder: As a former walk-on, do you have any rules for walk-ons to follow?

So if a tech had been called we would have had a chance for two free throws and the ball under their basket with 0.5 second to go and maybe down one point?
