    Re: They better be committed

There will always be speculation but this is not a major story. Why would Fred seek out Pollard for the ISU job (when McDumba$$ got it) just to jump to the NBA 3 years after actually getting the job. Kids are young and still in school, both him and Carol are from Ames. Families in Ames.

He's not going ANYWHERE. End of story.

Hard to blame the guy if the offer is triple his salary.

See Tim Floyd. There are very few NBA head coaching positions that are set to have success, and the jobs that open up are with the crappy franchises, ie, Timberwolves. Yes, there is money, but do you really think he wants to be on the road away from his family constantly while his crappy NBA team gets drilled day after day?

Never say never, but I don't see it.

repeat from another thread, but with his wealth i am certain things like family life are more important. i'm not saying more money wouldn't be great for him but there is a point (especially in iowa) where 1.5 million and 3 million buy you the exact same lifestyle. your parents and spouse's family cannot be replaced.

I agree, but i wouldnt blame him for going and making in 3 years, what he would in 10 at ISU. We would probably welcome him back with open arms after a 5 year NBA stint. And he would probably be even a better coach then. I dont think he will do it anytime soon. Jsut saying it would be hard to fault a guy for tripling his salary.

oh no, not at all - great for him - and hopefully he would come back. I'm sure it'd be hard to be on the road that much and if he retired come back to babysitting and pandering to college kids.

Cael Sanderson ruined any faith I had in any Alums/Iowans staying as a coach due to their connection with the University. Money runs everything. I didn't use to think that, but after Cael bolted I won't be surprised to see anyone leave for the money.

i think the difference fred's blood is on the sidewalks from skinned knees and his childhood memories have been unlocked in ames. sometimes money can't change everything.

I could see Fred leaving if he was satisfied with what he has accomplished in Ames. I don't think he is satisfied.

Cael wasn't raised in Ames, Fred was. Other than Cael wresting in college here, he had no other connection to Ames. Fred has much more connection to this city.

I don't think we have to worry about him leaving before his kids are in college (hopefully raging in cardinal and gold) but pay the man what he wants.

He should be paid fair market value for a coach of his caliber. Maybe on the low end of that, but we certainly should not take advantage of his loyalty.

The rag is gonna push and push (maybe an article/day) like they like to overkill every non-issue. As long as ISU is out performing iowa, they won't let it die. Gotta give the hawks some kind of hope to cling to.
