    Oldest item in your freezer

Finished cleaning out my parents freezer last night. It was made by International Harvester and has been running constantly since 1958.

Deep in the depths of the freezer I found a container marked apple sauce and dated 1989.

    What is in your freezer?

The better question is "who" is in your freezer.

“Science investigates; religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge, which is power; religion gives man wisdom, which is control. Science deals mainly with facts; religion deals mainly with values. The two are not rivals. They are complementary.”

Actually I did. Sometimes dad would put what he called "cabbage" in the freezer and I wanted to be sure I didn't throw "cabbage" away.

A couple of months ago I found a 3 1/2 year old rump roast. I went ahead and cooked it. It was delicious and you could cut it with a fork. I keep my freezer at about -10 F. I may just start aging meat in my freezer for 2 years before eating it now.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Re: Oldest item in your freezer

Ours is pretty good right now. I was doing some work in the laundry room, where the freezer is, and had forgot to plug it back in when I was done working around that area. We didn't notice it until a couple days later. It probably cost me about $200 in good food, but was well worth it in the end as I was finding a few things dated as far back as 2006. Plus those random popscicles that fell out of the box way back in probably 2002. It allowed for a long over due cleaning and defrost.

Those things are amazing. My parents got an IH freezer and fridge for a wedding present in 1951 Freezer died in late 70s but the fridge is still in basement running.

I spent $1000 on Maytag fridge at Home Depot 2 years ago and when I asked the salesman what the life expectancy was he said " Unless you want to spend $2000+ most fridges will last you about 10 years."
