    Coach F & Iowa State

Curious what people's honest thoughts are on this.

Has Bill Fennelly been at Iowa State too long? Many on here now are questioning a lot of the things about him personally and the program. The level of success has been sustained (the top half of the conf finishes and run of NCAA tourney appearances) but is also a topic for why hasn't the program taken the next step, relationship with players (than NONE of us outside the program really know about) and recruiting approach and success. After the length of time he has been here is he and the program taken for granted?

Fred is universally loved and praised for what he has done in his time here, if he just maintains this will he be criticized in a few years.

I have just been reading a lot of the cynical comments and the questioning and wonder if it just has to do with having heard the voice for so many years that it has gotten stale for some of the fans?

I would be concerned that Ohio State's WBB job is open. Gene Smith hired BF once, could he do it again? And if so would that be a really bad thing to some?

I am just curious about people honest thoughts, especially the critics.

    Many people are questioning him?

I don't think so. This year he did an outstanding coaching job. One of his best IMO. Yeah, he's a hard *** and is kind of old school in that regard. That's fine. Bill is universally loved and respected too.

BF is the best thing to ever happen to ISU Women's basketball PERIOD.

If he maintains the level of success he has had at ISU in future years I will be happy. If he achieves more then that is just gravy on top.

Technically, you could ask, but technically, that would make you a ****** bag.

The man just finished second in a league with Baylor\Griner. How can there be any complaint?

As far as if he got hired away... much more downward risk than upward payoff. Fennelly IS ISU wbb.

Re: Coach F & Iowa State

I think he signed a 12 year contract in 2007.

I also think he is only 50-60 wins away from being the all-time winningest coach in ISU history. Harold Nichols is the only coach ahead of him.

I am not worried that BF stayed too long with us. BF continues to evolve and adapt to the game. The fact that we can compete in Big 12 shows that he still deserves to be here.

When any basketball coach goes to the tourny and wins games there, its a good thing.

Yeah, I agree with this assessment! If you watched the timeout after Georgia got up on us by double digits, he laid into Pop - something to the effect of "are you supposed to be a ******* post?!!" -- and repeated it at least a couple more times. I thought, "man, he's really flipping out when I thought that the Georgia post just made an excellent play off a perfect pass from the guard." Then, shortly after, the girls go on a huge run & go up by 4 pts. Georgia calls time-out, our girls huddle around Coach Fen & he's got a crafty grin on his face & he's nodding. We would have had this game in hand had Georgia shot closer to their season avg in 3ptrs. And, I actually thought that had that 3ptr from the corner not gone in for UGa (to pull them within 1), it would have been game over right there!

For as hard as Fen is on the girls, he praises them, brags about them, & doesn't throw them under the bus to the public. Great coach. It would be amazing if we could somehow land a couple of these 5-star players. Can you imagine a Griener or Della Donne on our roster. We'd be a virtual shoo-in for the Final 4, IMHO.

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"
