Are you comfortable giving out referalls to Insurance companies?

So, I have a friend who started working with that large "Directional" Insurance company and figured I would sit through their deal as a courtesy. I already have life insurance from another source and feel that I am on the right track currently. This is the 4th time I've had someone from this company want to go through their sales pitch with me just so they can "help me".

Anyway this company is notorious for asking for referrals at the end of the discussion and seem to have a hard time taking no for an answer. I respect my friend who works their but don't want to be the guy who sends out all of my other contacts to be called upon.

How do you handle situations like these? Do you give out referrals? Or do you just continue to hold your ground?

I suppose I can pass along any of your contact info if someone wants to talk life insurance.

I've been in a same situation. I hate the way they word these things, especially with new staff. Even they don't know what is being done with the information they're asked to collect.

I simply don't give it out. If anyone gave my contact info out I would be very unhappy with them.

Ugh. Please don't do this. I actually had a family member once put me in a very awkward position by giving out my info as a referral to someone from what is likely this same company.

Besides, if this person is a friend you probably have a lot of the same contacts.

I prefer to give Primerica all my friends/family information.

Make up a person. Or just give them Clones21's info.

Give them the contact info of all your enemies NOT your friends.

Re: Are you comfortable giving out referalls to Insurance companies?

I don't work for that particular company, but I know how they operate and doing it that way really doesn't work very well. First of all, if you didn't do business with them in the first place, why the heck would you want to send other people their way?
I also think when looking for referrals, you can't just ask for anyone. It needs to be targeted. I usually wait until someone has been a client over a year before I even consider it. Throughout that time, as new things are learned, I will almost always hear "so and so would like this" or "so and so is doing things exactly this way". I kind of keep a running list of names I hear and then when the time is right, ask my clients if they are comfortable helping me meet "so and so". If they say no, that's the end of the conversation.
Understand referrals are a huge part of the business, but agents also need to understand that some people just flat out aren't comfortable giving them out (especially if they didn't do business with them in the first place).
The best response I know for getting out of the push for referrals is simply "I'm not comfortable doing that" If there's much pressure after that then you can let them know its because of the hard sell they are giving you now that you don't want them meeting with your friends.

Also, NEVER give out someone as a referral without checking with them first. If that is the case the agent could have just used the phone book.

Re: Are you comfortable giving out referalls to Insurance companies?

I would just politely "pass" and let them know that you prefer others don't share your contact information without your consent first. So, you will take the same approach and respect your contacts' privacy until they indicate they are interested/willing to let you share it.

You can get more coupons from CF if you give them CW's contact info.

I'm really confused here. Is this an insurance company or a pyramid scheme?

Re: Are you comfortable giving out referalls to Insurance companies?

Just my $.02, but if you already know you're not going to buy their product you're not doing them much of a courtesy by sitting through their spiel. Unless they're new to the business and looking for someone to practice on without expecting to make a sale. In that case, you need to make sure to play the role of angry guy who is ****** that someone gave his name out as a referral in order to train your buddy for that situation.

Ask for a finders fee for doing their job for them if you give them referrals.
