Re: Blum: The Always Entertaining Underdogs

I'm so sad that I won't be able to see those guys suit up again. They were the best basketball team at ISU in 13 years. Thanks for making me feel like I was a kid again, Cyclones.

Great writing, that article brought all those emotions from Saturday back and I'm not sure whether I should thank you or curse you for that.

Re: Blum: The Always Entertaining Underdogs

What a fantastic article which really sums up this year's team! My wife screamed when Tyrus hit that three, and she is a very calm Cyclone fan for the most part.

I hope you keep writing about the Cyclones for a long, long time. Just very enjoyable reading.

"... They didn't have the overwhelming power of a Fizer or Tinsley team, no individual brilliance of a Royce White, they didn't beat you up like the Willoughby/Cato/Pratt/Bankhead squads and didn't have the local connection like Hoiberg's and Meyer's early '90's group. This team was its own unique breed..."

    Well put!

Re: Blum: The Always Entertaining Underdogs

That was awesome, another great read from mr Blum.

I got chills from the part on the OSU FB game.

This team was indeed special just like many others but as you mentioned this team was in fact "its own unique breed".

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

Re: Blum: The Always Entertaining Underdogs

This team reminded me a lot of the Willoughby, Cato, Pratt, Bankhead, Holloway teams. Those guys were only together 2 years but really left an impression on everyone. Not sure why. Maybe they just played a lot of close games and were really fun to watch. But also I think part of it is you could really tell these guys liked each other, and really cared. To see KL go from being a transfer from MSU to one of our own was pretty cool really.

Another thing is the improvement they made as well. If you look at each guy from the time they started to the time they finished it was really impressive. I mean think about the progress Tyrus made. Dude could come off that screen and hit a 25 footer with a guy in his face consistently, something maybe 1% of college players can really do well.

    Really an impressive group.

Re: Blum: The Always Entertaining Underdogs

Great article, Blum. It about sums it up for me. I too was content, even after the game was over. Only one team gets to win their last game in this tournament, and this was as satisfying an exit as I could have hoped for.

I'm looking forward to next year's team, but I'll hold off on the "can't wait for" attitude for a bit longer as I hold close the cherished memories of this year's always entertaining team.
