Biggest Screw Jobs in ISU history

Listening to Barkley say how sorry he feels for ISU players and fans for getting jobbed on that call it made me think about the number of times ISU has gotten screwed over the history of the program. At the same time I was trying to think of any time that the other team got screwed and ISU benefitted or won a game because of it.

Times we got screwed off the top of my head:

    Seneca Wallace vs. FSU
FG called wide vs. Alabama in bowl game
No call charge vs. KU this year
BS called charge vs. OSU in tourney

Times the other team got screwed:

    hmmm.....

I'd rather not remember all of them. I've already spent too much on personal therapy to forget them

Yup. What really sucks is this is the 6th time I've gone to the ER this year to have my nuts brought back down and out of my stomach.

I rarely post, but I want to throw in my two cents. Some of you really need to stop dwelling on this charge call.

Re: Biggest Screw Jobs in ISU history

It's funny, my dad and I were talking to this after the game yesterday. In all the years we've been watching the Cyclones, especially in the Big games they've played, we tried to remember if we ever left a game thinking, "Whew, thank goodness for that ref blowing that call against the other team that won us the game there at the end." We couldn't think of any. And in the end we agreed, it's not the losinga as much as the flat out kick in the nuts that seems to happen every time. The way that game went down, we both agreed we'd have felt better after the game if we'd have flat out got beat, if we lost by 10 or 15. The fact that we keep losing this way is mond boggling.

Re: Biggest Screw Jobs in ISU history

It wasn't a huge game, but 2004 vs Kansas deadball 3 pointer is the worst screw job by a mile. Nothing else is close.

Kansas fans don't even believe it happened...ISU fans in their 20s don't even believe it happened...it did. Mind blowing bad. Only thing worse is ISU fans who swallowed the Big 12/KU rationalization of rules that are somewhat subjectively written to begin with. If I were KU/Big 12 I'd have lawyered up the same way on it, but it was pure bs. If the rules really endorse that resolution of the mistake, the rules should be immediately rewritten. Will never happen in a Big 12 game for another team but KU.

I'd have to say this year's fixed Kansas game was the second worst ever.

To much, but we also turned the damn over to much in that game. I have been listening to sport talk shows today and its everywhere they are talking about Iowa State and Ohio State the game the call the coach its like I cannot get away from it!!

Great game the ball just didn't bounce our way in the end, but that will change.

The way I see it is we are getting a lot more media attention because of our style of play and respect, but also because we have been the recipient of total blown calls against us when playing the NAME school. With all this attention I think some calls will maybe go our way.

Re: Biggest Screw Jobs in ISU history

Please. Yesterday was far from a screwjob. Kansas earlier this year? Screwjob. Kansas phantom 3? Screwjob. Blarge? Screwjob. The charge yesterday? Incorrect call, but the play happened so fast that I'm going to give the ref the benefit of the doubt on this one. Yes, it was incorrect, yes, he probably should have given our guy the benefit of the doubt on a play that close. But that wouldn't even be in the top 10 of ISU screwjobs. Besides, ISU had PLENTY of opportunities to win the game after it.

Not the ref's fault we lost yesterday.

I generally agree with this but I think blarge was somewhat similar to yesterday in terms of the play that happened, just the officials seemed even more clueless when they came up with blarge. Plus we all knew blarge may have cost ISU a legit shot at a National Championship.

If I watched yesterday and blarge without knowing the call, I'd say they were tough plays to officiate, same with Wallace diving for the end zone or the Alabama FG. The two KU calls this year and '04, there's absolutely zero question the game was intentionally fixed or there was 100% incompetence. No defending either of them in any way, even though KU fans will try.

I guess I generally agree with this, but I question it a lot more than I question what happened yesterday. And it certainly was a lot more devastating than yesterday.
