Why no no challage flag like in NFL for MBB

This may have been discussed before, but to me if would benefit college BB if each coach had the ability once per game to challenge a foul call, like in the NFL. I only see positives from this....

    thoughts?

Edit: mods please correct my horrible spelling of the word challenge in the title of the thread.

Because then the refs wouldn't be able to help the Kansas' of the world win.

Because it would extend the game 10 extra minutes.

It does exist to a certain extent. First off, fouls are not reviewed in basketball just like penalty flags are not reviewed in football. The refs will review clock issues if a coach has a gripe that holds water. That is where the review in basketball comes in.

couldn't you just then remove 1 timeout for each team, there are plenty of timeouts in a game already.

It's really stupid how people say looking at replays would "make the game too long", yet no one complains about the NFL.

I like your plan, but Scott Drew cried reading that post.

I think you should be allowed 2 challenges during the last 5 min of the second half. You miss a challenge you lose a timeout.

They should be able to stop and review having a foot on the circle under the basket for a block/charge just like they can review having a foot on the three point line, both are completely objective calls that could be easily corrected.

They should get rid of the charge circle all together until they have enough competent refs who can correctly make a charge/block call and see where the player is at at the same time. There are so many times in college basketball where a player is not set yet draws the charge simply because the ref saw he was outside of the circle.

Re: Why no no challage flag like in NFL for MBB

    Couple things.

First of all, baseball doesn't have a challenge flag. A manager can come out and kick dirt on an umpire, but that's about it. There is limited use on home runs being over the fence or near the foul pole, but that's all. They have a protest based on rules and that is upheld about once every 20 years. Last year the Cards-Braves game had the infield fly rule call argument. No opportunity for the Braves to have the play reviewed.

Even the NFL - no reviews on judgement calls - pass interference, holding, clipping, personal foul.

Basketball is almost entirely judgement calls. Block-charge, traveling, palming, moving screen, every fouls - all are referee's judgement. As pointed out above many of the non-judgement calls are already reviewable in basketball.

Re: Why no no challage flag like in NFL for MBB

I also wouldn't mind seeing referees turn to coaches and say "Go ahead and coach your team instead of coaching me."

Let a replay system be the accountability. T up the coaches who scream at refs all night, no matter who they are or who they think they are.

Another option is eliminating charging all together. Block every time. Players will stop sliding under and over eventually and the game will be all the better for it.
