    Matt Thomas > McGee?

For those that have watched him play......Is he as good at shooting the 3 as McGee? Is he a similar shooter to McGee where as he just chucks it up from anywhere off a screen not facing the basket and it goes in? Or is he more of a traditional shooter like Fred was? What are his HS stats?

Not asking if better player just shooter.

    Thanks.

    Re: Matt Thomas > McGee?

Tough to be better than McGee, but I think he has potential because of his size.

I'd doubt it to start off. 46% is pretty hard to do.

    Re: Matt Thomas > McGee?

I think Thomas is a little more a "face up" guy than a "turn in mid air off the screen without looking at the basket and hit nothing but the bottom of the net over a 6'8" defender" type of guy. But I could be wrong

Probably not year one, I think year two is the magic year for shooters to blow up under Fred. The longer the better.

McGee is much is quicker at getting open and getting his shot off than Thomas.

    Re: Matt Thomas > McGee?

I doubt it, but there is a chance. McGee was pretty phenomenal this year.

Also: McGee's quick release and incredible vertical on his threes was astounding. It was amazing how quick he'd get shots up coming off a downscreen.

To be honest, I think Tyrus might have been the best pure shooter this team has had in a very long time so no. I do however think that over the course of his career, he will be a better overall player.

    Re: Matt Thomas > McGee?

Not from day one. Leading the nation in 3pt percentage is pretty incredible. I think he has the potential to be that good though. He's more of a Fred type of spot up shooter from what I've seen. His size will help him as well.

    Re: Matt Thomas > McGee?

Some of our fans couldn't see the possibility of McGee replacing what we got from Scotty. Not all or even a majority, but definitely quite a few.

I think Ejim's shooting improvement has been the most impressive, a lot of the other guys like Tyrus, SC, Babb, KL and Clyburn arrived as good or great shooters and improved a little. Even Niang seemed to be able to shoot it from day one as a freshman. Part of that is Fred knowing how to identify great shooters though.

    Re: Matt Thomas > McGee?

Watching McGee shoot was one of the most pleasurable things about the year. It almost seemed like he would twist and release mid-air with a hand in his face and the ball would float to the hole like it had a mind of its own.

I don't think we will have anyone with his style for a very very long time and it makes me sad.

Come on now, show some respect for Mr McThree. We parted ways less than 24 hrs ago.

    Too soon, man. Too soon.

Way too early to make that comparison. Tyrus was one of the best in the country, he was fearless, and he could get the shot off in tough situations (coming off screens, off dribble, etc.).

Thomas is a great shooter, but let's not be disappointed if he is not Tyrus right away.

That one McGee hit in our comeback yesterday was ridiculous. There is no way to defend that shot. We're going to miss him badly.
