Will we ever see another team with as many shooters!

Now that the season has come to a close ( it was such a fun team to watch) will we ever see a team with as many pure shooters from the perimeter as we had this year. Close to 350 made threes is just an unbelievable stat. six shooters with over 30 threes and mcgee with close to 90

looking at next year will we be as potent offensively as this year and be able to stretch the defenses like we did this year

    what is everybody's thoughts

PROUD OF THIS YEARS TEAM MADE IT FUN TO WATCH ISU BASKETBALL AGAIN. UP AND DOWN REMINDED ME OF JOHNNYS TEAMS

Unlike the last 2 wishy washy responses I'm going to say yes. Or maybe no.

Yes. It's all in the recruiting and development, combined with the system.

With our guys and our recruits - avg 9-10 treys a game shouldn't be that hard to imagine. If we plan our offense that way, it will just happen. Not every year, but hey, we hold the record for most trey's in a season now. So we only have ourselves to beat ;-)

Yes, I think this will be the norm as long as Mayor is around. He not only recruits shooters, but guys improve their shot once they get here.

Korie, Niang, and Ejim have all improved their outside shot in the time they have been here.

Iowa State will continue to shoot a high volume of threes. That's how they are going to play. It will be hard to match 350, but I will not be surprised to see them near 300 next season. Morris, Thomas, SDW, Ejim, Niang, Bluford, Naz, Hogue can all shoot it well. And Bubu and Kerwin are both capable. Get used to the three ball, it is not leaving anytime soon.

Most 3s by a Big 12 team. 6th most in NCAA history.

Will be tough to beat. For sure possible with Fred at the helm.

Re: Will we ever see another team with as many shooters!

I think it will be a long time till we see / have another shooter like McGee at 46-47%. Jake Sullivan was our last in 2001 at 47% and Scotty was at 45%. Willoughby was about 45%

Seems like McGee was money when he got his feet square.

Re: Will we ever see another team with as many shooters!

We may never shoot the volume that we did this year, but yes, under Fred we will always be a very good 3-pt shooting team.

Our head coach values the 3, and loves to space the floor. Take a look at the highlight videos of MT and SDW. Those guys will be able to shoot from day 1. It sounds like Bluford is similar as well, and I'm assuming that they will all benefit from Fred's coaching and system.

Keep in mind that we've seen many other shooters improve under Hoiberg and it's likely because it's by design through out offensive spacing.

Ejim has improved and I wouldn't be shocked if guys like Hogue and Okoro take big steps forward as well.

Yes. No one thought we could replace Christopherson either. Fred will find good shooters and make them even better, again.

Thomas, SDW, Bluford, Niang. We're shooting again.

Re: Will we ever see another team with as many shooters!

Yes, the key is the Big Guys, if they can shoot it makes it easier for the guards. With them both coming back we will play a similar style next year. Honestly we will probably play this style as long as Georges is at ISU. His style kind of dictates the on court style.

Now if we get a dominant Big Guy and move Georges to the 4, then we may see a slight style change, but we will always have guards that have the green light to shoot.

I don't disagree that McGee was an exceptional talent given his combination of accuracy and volume. However, ISU doesn't necessarily need another McGee to still make this kind of number of shots. If ISU's best was only a 44% shooter rather than 46+% like McGee was with the same 207 shots it would only be 5 fewer makes on the entire season. What could easily counter this would be having more consistent shooters at the 1, 2 and 3 positions. Babb's .382 and Korie's .377 are certainly good percentages but it is not unlikely that ISU will be able to recruit and develop players who can match or exceed these numbers at times. Will's .308 is certainly a number that could be improved on at the 3, especially the 3 as Fred uses the position. The more difficult proposition will be to consistently have 4 and 5 with numbers like Mel and Georges produce, .348 and .392, and still take care of the other things we need out of those positions like rebounding, post defense and a legitimate inside offensive threat.

Also keep in mind what a difference it would have made this year if ISU had a reserve post who was more of a threat from 3 this year. Book made 6 of 31 this year for .194. If he had made the .421 that he did last year even on a comparable number of attempts if would have equated to 7 more made threes. If he was hitting at that clip he probably would have not passed up some of the open looks he passed on this year as well. Having more of a post 3 threat than just your two starting posts would keep the pressure on the D even when one of them sits down for a blow or due to foul trouble.

I wonder if it was just the type of players we had this year that made contested three after three or if it is something with coaching? Regardless I hope the shooting continues.

Yes. We will always be outstanding shooting the three.

I'd be stunned if the guys in the system don't continue to improve.
I wouldn't be completely shocked to see Percy develop a fairly steady 3 point shot. It's a huge part of what we do.
