Poll: Favorite Fred Hoiberg Coached Men's Bball Team

With this season finally in the books, I think it is safe to say that we've had quite a few very fun seasons since Fred Hoiberg has arrived back on campus. With that said, what has been your favorite Fred Hoiberg team to watch so far. Please note that I'm not looking for who you think was the best team, but rather who you enjoyed watching the most.

I've enjoyed them all equally, even the 10-11 squad.

While I've loved all of them, I personally chose the 2011-2012 team mainly because I absolutely loved watching Royce White play. The guy was simply an amazing player and was a joy to watch.

Re: Poll: Favorite Fred Hoiberg Coached Men's Bball Team

That's like asking a person to pick their favorite child..... :)

I don't think I can pick one. I enjoyed the first one. It was fun, as a fan, to listen to DG that year and almost see the kid smiling through the radio. Even though they didn't win as much as they would have liked, those guys fought hard and it was good to see a kid who stuck out 4 years at Iowa State shine.

I loved last year's team. They brought Iowa State back. Despite Royce's recent struggles, I loved what a positive role he played on the team. I loved that success story. It was fun to see Scotty finally have some winning in his career.

And I lovedthis year's team. I probably feel the worst for them because they had their heart stomped on more times in one year than most do in 4. They never quit fighting though and their performance yesterday is one that will not quickly be forgotten. Some of the transfers got some crap about not caring or not caring about winning, but all of those guys cared a hell of a lot.

See, I absolutely loved watching Royce, but I thought this year's team was more of a traditional "team." That gave them the edge.

Fully understand where you are coming from there and fully agree with you. I guess to each his own.

    I went with this year.

After watching all the post-game stuff, these guys really were a true Cyclones team. Really wish it woulda ended differently for them

Re: Poll: Favorite Fred Hoiberg Coached Men's Bball Team

I picked 10-11 because of how BAD that team should have been. The 11-12 and 12-13 teams had talent aplenty, the question was always if Hoiberg could get them to gel and put them in the position to win.

The 10-11 team was a bare-cupboard hodgepodge of bigs who couldn't play post and guards who couldn't shoot that somehow found a way to match the previous coach's best season through nothing but determination, willpower, and great coaching.

And Jake, even though he was only on the team one year, will always be a Cyclone favorite of mine, just because of the toughness and never-die attitude that I think exemplifies so much of what it means to be a true Cyclone.

In a question like this, all the teams included in the answer choices should have played more than a year ago. We're all still in the grieving period, and therefore likely to pick this years team.

Just like if you ask "who is your favorite cyclone of all time?". Today many would say Niang, Babb etc. Last year many would say Royce. Before that Brackins, Rahshon etc.

I definitely realize there is going to naturally be a bias to this year's team and I think people should factor that in when analyzing the results. However, polls are made for fun and this is a fun poll to discuss right now even if it is biased.

These are my thoughts as well. Last year was fun, but it was deffinitely the Royce White show featuring the Iowa State Cyclone role players. This year we had the potential for a different guy to star every night. We actually have a young star in Niang that isn't playing his only year of eligibility. We got great contributions from out seniors, who will be sorely missed, as well.

I think the unconventionalness of the team last year was what stood out to me the most and made them intrigueing in my mind to watch. I'm not sure the world has seen any player quite similar to Royce before, and I can guarantee that ISU will probably never see anyone like him at all again. So, while it is fun to get back to more of a conventional team, I feel like a more conventional guard-based team is what ISU will look like going forward and will be more the norm in the future, especially when you look at the way Fred has been recruiting lately (loads of shooters, Juco athletic smaller bigs not necessarily tailored to score a ton, but can run). Essentially, this year's team seems super special now and are, but I truly believe our future teams under CFH are going to look very similar (nothing wrong with this). The "Royce" show was more or an "experiment gone well" and will never be the norm and thus stands out in my mind.

I'll take the 10-11 squad, if only because it was such a random collection of players that should have been even worse than their record indicated. But they played hard, didn't make excuses, and made it fun to watch Cyclone basketball again.

And the most important thing about that team was that everybody completely bought into what Fred was trying to install. If that first group doesn't buy into it, then all the transfers pick up on that, the negativity carries over to the next year, and maybe this program never gets off the ground the way it has.

They definitely laid the foundation and won't ever get enough credit for doing so.
