Not Worried about Next Season (Sorta)

I saw some posts on here expressing worries about next season. I can honestly say that after last year I was more worried than I was after this year. We Return 2 starters, and bring in a fantastic recruiting class. I think we will have all the tools that are needed to be capable of competing for the big dance. Their are two things that I really hope don't happen that would make me worried about next year. The first is Fred's name being thrown around in the NBA. If his name were being thrown around about going to other colleges I would not be the least bit concerned, but the option of the NBA for him scares me. The second is Coach Otzelberger possibly going to another school. He is a fantastic Recruiter and coach, and would be tough to replace. All in all it was a fun season, and as long as our coaches stay put there is no doubt in my mind that we will be back strong again next year!!!!

Not too worried about Otz going to Drake. He deserves to be a Head Coach, he has earned it.

I am concerned about his replacement. I'd love to see a defensive-minded coach.

Fred won't leave ISU unless he is fired or the program is in much better position than it is right now. He came to ISU to build a program that can win championships and he's in the process of doing that. He may leave ISU one day, but I doubt that is in the near future. Otz leaving could happen and would suck though.

I would love to have otz stay at least one more season. He's a great guy and represents the program very well.

Re: Not Worried about Next Season (Sorta)

I justwant us to be realistic about next year. We aren't returning a ton of seniors.

enjoy the ride. enjoy what has happend the last 2 years. Think about what Fred and company have done the last 2 years. Amazing and crazy and wonderful.

I am finsihed with vodka now. How long will my buzz last?

If Otz leaves, it would be pretty good timing...our profile is high, and several good assistants could be looking for work...some of Howland's assistants would be great considering the talent they've been able to pull in.

Re: Not Worried about Next Season (Sorta)

Honestly I think we will call the next assistant HC a great recruiter too, if not better. Iowa State is an exciting team, and guys will want to play for Fred. We could use a great defensive minded and/or former HC for assistant. With that being said, I am in no way saying we need a new one or that we should get rid of Otz.

I lost all faith in the theory that coaches want to coach and take their alma maters to the next level when Cael jumped ship. I can't fathom a possibility that CFH would leave but in the back of my mind there is always a bit of doubt.

That is a very cyclone thought. My thoughts revolve around his heart. What if the next surgery has to happen this year and the doctor says get out of the stressful coaching? The other thought is that he'll be finished with the heartbreak thatinvolves Iowa state.

This could work out well. Otz might be our pipeline coach to fill Fred's shoes when he takes over as AD or heads to the NBA in a few years

    Not even worried "sorta."

Fred has some real momentum built right now. Let the media say what they want. He's ours.

I still want to believe he will be our coach in 15 years. I hate the idea of him taking an AD job or an NBA job. Holy **** would that be heartbreaking.

Re: Not Worried about Next Season (Sorta)

10 teams in the Big 12 with 5 of them probably getting bids to the dance. ISU should go dancing and be one of the 4-5 who gets a bid. ISU is in good shape even for a transition year to have another season pretty similar to this one.

Anything more is a stretch but another season like this one is realistic and something fans can expect.

Re: Not Worried about Next Season (Sorta)

I'm not worried. Our team will be young but very talented. How that translates will be determined by how ready our young guards are. Even if next year's team doesn't reach quite the heights of the last two, the future will be very exciting (and I'm not ruling them out for next year, as freshman are way more college ready than they used to be, especially when they're highly regarded and you have a good staff).
