Time to give Fred another raise

    Y! SPORTS

I'm not worried about something like this right now but down the line, I could see him taking a NBA job. Of course, that's after he's won a couple national titles at ISU.

Yahoo: Hoiberg coveted coaching candidate for NBA

"If I had to make a hire this year, [Hoiberg] would be one of the first calls I'd make," one NBA general manager told Yahoo! Sports on Sunday. "He is a natural for our league."

"Two GMs who expect to have openings told Yahoo! Sports that they planned to feel out Hoiberg's interest in the NBA once they begin search processes."

    Ugh

It won't be only NBA teams. UCLA, Syracuse and any other high profile schools with possible openings will be after him. Need to give him another large raise to keep him here.

NBA Teams Eying Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg

    Y! SPORTS

    Don't kill the messsenger!

I just saw this story on the front page of Yahoo and I thought I'd pass it along. I know it's a bad time and I don't want Fred going anywhere either, but it seems the suspicions that he would garner interest as an NBA head coach are proving true. Possibly sooner than we thought.

I can't imagine him leaving though, espically after the way this season ended.

No worries, he is staying for a while.

Get used to it. On the other end, we won't have to worry about colleges coming after him. They will just be shot down and nothing will be heard of it.

Re: Yahoo: Hoiberg coveted coaching candidate for NBA

My hunch is that he's ours for a long, long time. He knew when he took the job that this wasn't just a routine hiring of a coach. This is perhaps the singular most beloved player in Cyclone basketball history. To walk away from that so easily could severely damage if not outright shatter his legacy. He knows that I don't think he'd walk away from that.

    At least, I hope not.

Re: Yahoo: Hoiberg coveted coaching candidate for NBA

This is not a surprise. He would be a perfect NBA coach. He'll get approached this year. I am sure he got approached the past 2 years. His few college coaching flaws would be less of an issue in the NBA. They'll want him. He is a star in the making.

If UCLA whiffs on their dream candidates (and you know they will) they would be stupid to not look at hoiberg.

I don't think he is going anywhere unless he decides he can't deal with the crap that the college game brings.

Fred isn't leaving for a college program. He will be an NBA coach but not until his kids are graduated from High School.

Re: Yahoo: Hoiberg coveted coaching candidate for NBA

"It would need to be a long-term commitment, because he could stay at Iowa State forever," says one assistant GM who stays in contact with Hoiberg.
That says a lot, I think. He's not leaving for awhile.
