    Kids toy train sets

Hey all, if you're like me, you're trying to take your mind off college athletics right about now....anyways, we have a 20 month old who is a fanatic about building duplos and we think he'd love a kids train set...any suggestions as far as brands or what to get? We'd like it to go with a table, but we want to be able to use the table for crafts/drawing ect.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Kids toy train sets

We have been through a few different train sets at this house. I built my boy a table out of a sheet of MDF.
He has primarily Thomas Take N Play stuff. They are metal diecast, which is nice and they are very portable. Thomas trains changed ownership a couple years ago and they have made some nice new sets.

Wooden trains are pretty interchangable. The Thomas, imaginarium, IKEA, Circo all use basically the same tracks and have a common Axle width.

My nephews have some of the Geotracks sets and really like those. They are a bit bigger but are battery powered. I also don't think there is as much track flexibility with those.

I guess I don't have much of a recommendation except to stick with one model.

    Re: Kids toy train sets

Would you recommend building a table or buying one to come with the train?

All the wooden ones are pretty similar and pretty good for a kid of that age.

Since he's into duplos, you might want to check out their train sets. Our boys play with the duplo trains more than the wooden ones any more. We have the battery powered ones and the ones they have to push themselves. Both are nice.

Geo tracks were a fantastic buy for my boy at that age. Still loves them at 6.

I was curious how you know this but you are right.

Based on my search I didn't think these looked too bad:

This looked like a nice table but didn't look like it included any tracks:
