Ning on D on Last Possession

Any idea why after switching offense/defense with Niang on so many possessions, he was left in on the last possession?

Bubu looked like he had concrete shoes. We just couldn't afford to lose Niang to a 5th foul. No point in holding him out on the last possession of the game.

He was going out on defense because he had 4 fouls, not because he's a bad defender.

You switch there so Craft can't blow-by for the layup. We challenged him to beat us with a three and he did. We had a 60%+ chance of winning that bet and lost.

Got to be more aware of time on clock. No need to backpedal with 4 seconds left

Niang is about good as it gets for a freshman...bright future.

That said...no way in hell he should have been on Craft.

We got to stop letting these guys get their feet set for these last second shots. Get in their grill

Re: Ning on D on Last Possession

Niang said in the postgame on the radio that he was playing the drive because Craft had missed some recent FTs (Also, he hadn't attempted a 3 pointer up to that point in the game), so he was taking the percentage play and lost. It's a tough beat, but it was probably the smart play on the part of Niang.

niang was fully aware of the clock. he backpeddled so craft wouldnt drive, but shoot the 3. And Craft didn't drive. he shot the 3. Turned out to be a gamble that we lost.

You switch everything there so the ball stays in front of you. If Bubu gets pinned on the screen it's a layup. A three over Niang is less likely to be made than a layup with no one defending. We played the odds and lost.

The closer you are to Craft the better the chances are he'll be blowing by you.

With the clock slipping below 10 seconds and Kraft standing there. Then 5 seconds... as a player you have to figure out the time and realize Kraft isn't going anywhere at that point and get out on him. IMO

Re: Ning on D on Last Possession

I was confused by the switch except not as much by the lack of pressure before the shot. Why did Bubu (other than too slow) not pressure the Ohio State player only to be followed by Niang to do the same. It was a tie but to give a fairly open three point shot is confusing. Why not put pressure and make the guy who had been missing free throws and is not all that quick try to drive to the hoop. I want to make it clear I am not putting the fault with Hoiberg but rather the players nervous and missing out on a opportunity at the end. Either way the basketball team had a good year again.

Disagree, because I'm sure he was told to be more ready got craft on the drive as opposed to a jumper.

Craft is not a shooter. Percentage wise, that shot is probably what we wanted. It just went against us...as that stuff usually does.

He played it well. Craft isn't a shooter.
It only looks like it's questionable because Craft made the shot.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
