    Very much so.

It's been so long since I have seen the original. This might be one of those few remakes that actually works.

I just spoke with two people that saw this last night and they gave it a pretty good review. I'm hoping to find time to check it out.

Did they say if it was made with the same tongue in cheek humor as the original? It seems from the commercial that they are just going for straight up scary, which isn't really true to the original.

They said their was more blood in this than they've ever seen in a movie. There were some creepy parts of the movie but they said it was very entertaining more than anything.

The Suburgatory girl was on Strahan and the what's her face today and they showed a clip. It looked very creepy, so I'm guessing it is good if you like those types of movies.

This is what I wondered too. It's too bad because the cheesy humor of the original series is what made it great. Now it is just a horror flick.

    Re: Evil Dead remake

If I remember the original, and I think I do since I own it, Evil Dead wasn't a movie with much tongue and cheek. It was a legit, low-budget horror flick back in the day. Humor made it's way into the franchise with Evil Dead II, and then Army of Darkness was all kinds of funny.

When I first saw the original, it gave me nightmares. It's the movie that makes basements/cellars scary.

    Re: Evil Dead remake

The original was not intentional cheesy or tongue-in-cheek. Raimi set out to make an actual horror movie to go up against Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Evil Dead 2 was essentially a remake of 1 where he realized it was campy and played it up.

I'm probably confusing 1 and 2. I have seen them both, but it's been a loooong time.

This. The first one wasn't supposed to be funny, but kinda is. Army of Darkness is pretty much slapstick. Evil Dead II is somewhere in between. All of them are excellent IMO. I've heard if you like the original you'll like the remake, I'm certainly going to see it
