ND Coach: "Men playing against boys"

From his post-game press conference. High praise, gotta like that. Seems like a classy guy. I was especially glad to see they didn't try to steal the ball and dunk (or attempt to dunk) it at the end like UConn did last year.

He talked about not being able to play us with 2 bigs on the court and having to switch to a smaller lineup, similar to what Huggins said after the WV game in Ames. It's definitely a style they aren't used to and can cause a lot of problems. Here's hoping it's a similar story vs. OSU.

I watched it right away. It's definitely worthwhile.

Classy on his part. Simply acknowledging that they were outclassed tonight.

That was Connecticut and Jeremy Lamb that did that last year, not Kentucky.

It wasn't a player but maybe a statistician or someone else with the team yelled "DePaul!" as ISU walked into the locker rooms, can hear it clearly on the cyclones.tv celebration clip.

Re: ND Coach: "Men playing against boys"

Very good coach. Brought in decent recruits and has overachieved most years.

They were a good team and had a good season. Came up against a team very very similar to them...so a good matchup....right...but as we know....it was basically men against boys.

Brey will be fine as will his players they are a good program and had a good year (and it wasn't supposed to be their year coming into the season which sort of makes their season more impressive b/c it was a good one they were ranked for a lot of it.)

Re: ND Coach: "Men playing against boys"

One thing I took away from that quote is something a lot of people are realizing this year: the breaking-up Big East is overrated this season. No one in that league but Louisville can score consistently, and the conference has very little athleticism. And it's been trending that way for a couple of years (see ISU beating down UConn a year ago.)

And no, I'm not taking anything away from what Iowa State accomplished tonight. I'm pointing how much better ISU's roster is right now. Big East teams have lost opening round games to high-major teams (ISU, North Carolina), mid-major teams (Creighton, Wichita State) and low-major teams (Florida Gulf Coast, plus Davidson gave away their game vs. Marquette).

Louisville, Georgetown and Marquette tied for the Big East title this season, Pittsburgh was 4th, and Notre Dame & Syracuse tied for 5th. Is it really a stretch, based on what we've seen, to say Iowa State could've finished 2nd in the Big East? Heck, bank that trey in Lawrence another inch left and get a ref in Ames to call a charge, and we're fighting to win the Big XII. The Cyclones would've finished better if they played better defense, too, but talent-wise, they're light-years ahead of most of the Big East, despite the lofty AP rankings. It was men against boys. Too bad Ohio State isn't Big East. ;)

Am I the only one wondering what the hell DePaul has to do with anything all night long? What is the story here?

ND players compared ISU to DePaul when talking style, and figured if they could handle an up tempo big east team ISU wouldn't pose a problem. DePaul won only 2 games in the big east all year. ISU players were very offended.

I just can't get over how slow their bigs looked all game. Was not expecting that.
