Can Ejim develop into a SF

I think this off season a couple guys need to transform their game.

    - Percy needs to transform his body and fitness. Picking up some of Niang's moves wouldn't hurt either.
    - Melvin was a great rebounder this year and has been a warrior in the post. I would love for the staff to challenge Melvin to become a SF next season. He needs to work on his ballhandling, jump shot and quickness/footwork to become a solid defender in space.

I say the above because I think Niang and Ejim's lack of height when playing together are a defensive/rebounding liability for the Clones. I'd love for ISU to be able to go with:

    PG Bubu, Long, Morris
    WG Bluford, Dorsey-Walker, Thomas
    SF Ejim, Hogue, Okoro
    PF/C Niang, Amardi, Gibson, Edozie

Other than Niang & Ejim, I have no idea who will start - but I think those lineups combine a solid 3 point shooting team along with potential to be tough on defense and solid rebounding.

I thought he is shooting fairly well for a SF.

You can call Melvin a SF, PF whatever you want to. It is just a label. He is going to play this way and continue to be a match up difficulty for teams next year as well.

35% from three and 51% from the field is pretty good for a SF but I don't know how he would do defensively guarding the 2-3.

Seems like we're three guard/ two forward, so even if he's not called a small forward, he gets around the outside like one

He pretty much is a SF imo, ISU just doesn't have the size right now to allow him to play that spot. He's kind of a tweener.

He needs to show that he can guard the perimeter and that he can dribble well before he can be considered a SF. Otherwise he is an undersized PF.

At this point, Ejim's game isn't going to change. He is who he is and we love him for that.

    Great Cyclone!

I call Ejim a 7, because he plays the 3 and the 4. If he were strictly a 3, he wouldn't have been so dominant this year.

Percy's body comp is perplexing to me. Big boy but is there a dedicated athlete underneath the baby fat? He's been here 2 years and I was thinking we'd see a body transformation...

He's not ripped yet, but he's not as thick as he was last year

Re: Can Ejim develop into a SF

I think he's a much better 4 on offense than he is a 3, but I think he can play the 3. The 4 is perfect for him because he doesn't have to handle it as much, and can hit the offensive boards all of the time. Niang and Ejim just make for a small frontline, and if one of Amardi, Edozie, and Gibson steps up, I bet we'll see Ejim starting at the 3, and then the team go small off the bench.

    This

Offensively I think he would be fine, but defensively, he might struggle at the SF position.

Re: Can Ejim develop into a SF

Ejim would be a borderline all-american at the 4 next year, IF he was 6 inches taller and could maintain his current level of body control, ball skills, etc.
