    Awaiting Selection Monday...

I thought I would post the most recent updates of where Iowa State stood in the various rankings and other considerations as we wait for two more days to find out where we will have to play (and which team).

First, we are the only Big 12 team, aside from Baylor, with fewer than 10 losses (23-8). RealTimeRPI has us at 22, with an SOS of 40, like the standings, good for 2nd best in the league. Sagarin still has us at 12 with a 14 SOS (I seriously would like to know why his numbers are so favorable to us). Warren Nolan has us at 24 RPI with a 40 SOS. Charlie Creme updated Bracketology today and still has us as a 6 seed, playing in Knoxville. RealTimeRPI also has us as a 6, but their seedings are messed up because they don't bother to put host teams in their own subregion. After the Big 12 tournament, I saw a Big 12 women's highlight show where Brenda Van Lengen was saying she thought Iowa State could be seeded as high as a 4, most likely a 5, possibly a 6 if a procedural bump screws us out of a spot (my assumption on the last ten words of that sentence). I just don't see a 6, but maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.

What I would like to see for us is to end up in that 4/5 area and get sent to Boulder with Colorado as a presumptive 2nd round opponent. I don't know that CU could be justified in being the higher seed because they are just below us in virtually every list that matters (except the rankings, which DON'T matter), but I'm not feeling us getting a 4 either after the (really) bad TCU loss. My reasoning for that is it would be a reasonable trip for fans to make - either by plane or car and it would give Anna a chance to play college ball at home one last time since ISU wasn't able to get any Colorado schools of the schedule this season. The problem is that I don't know how well we would match up with the Buffs. I believe them to be quite speedy, similar to how they were the last time they were in the Big 12, but with better ball handling and more scoring ability. Coors Event Center is a place ISU is familiar with as a team/staff, for the most part.

What's everyone else thinking? It's all conjecture on our part at this point, so have at it!

Colorado is a matchup problem waiting to happen. They are relatively big with numerous players over 6'. Chucky still plays for them and she would demand Nicki be at her best. I remember how quick she was. Strong rebounder too at 8 per game. Not loaded with scorers and not a good 3 shooting team. Solid defensively.

    Re: Awaiting Selection Monday...

Is CU's Chucky a 6th-year senior now? Seems like she's been there forever.

Consider this: If Iowa wbb gets a bid (which it probably will), they need to send thankyous to 2 teams: ISU and Purdue.

Somehow, they swept Purdue convincingly this year. Purdue was having its own troubles and then came through with the B1G tourney title. If they had not beat Purdue, their conference record would have been 7-11, or with a split 8-10, and that would not have been good enough.

But their only really good win outside of the conference is ISU, which will also likely be a key factor in them getting selected. I wonder if the committee will have in their footnotes that our starting PG did not start, and our All American did not play?

The irony of ISU giving Iowa a chance to make the dance...

We felt sorry for them since their men's programs did not meet HN expectations.

    Re: Awaiting Selection Monday...

    Final update from Charlie Creme-
He has put Iowa State as the 6th seed going to Spokane and playing 11 seed Gonzaga- so yes, Gonzaga would be playing on their home court. The other teams in that "pod" include 3 seed Nebraska and 14 seed Fresno State.

The S-Factor blog has ISU as the 20th overall seed which means it is a 5 seed. That blog does not do a bracketology but if you did use the S-curve for the seedings ISU would be paired up against 12 seed Toledo.

The S-Factor is out of date now with the weekend games. CMU beat both Toledo and Akron to win the MAC and make the tourney. That is Jess Schroll's team. Would rather not play her team.

    Re: Awaiting Selection Monday...

I am kind of linking the idea of the 6 seed in Knoxville, TN. Knoxville is only 4 hours from Dayton, OH. Friday night in Dayton/Saturday in Knoxville/Sunday back in Dayton/Monday back in Knoxville. Sounds like a great ISU basketball weekend to me!

This is true- good catch. I will re-post when they update today.

Saw Schroll's team playing on TV Sat and Sun - I'd rather not playing against CMU.

    Re: Awaiting Selection Monday...

This is taking forever. Why do they have to wait until Monday at 7:00 PM? By the time we get our seed, we will have forgotten what out team looks like.

After getting a home game as a 10 seed last year, we really can't complain if we have to play a road game as the better seed this time around.

My main hope is that we do NOT end up in Baylor's region. I have seen enough of the them and their coach for one year. I can make an exception if it is in the Final Four!!
