    Ankeny Insurance Agents

I've been arguing a more than $250 rate increase to our homeowners insurance with Allied now for about a week. They claim I live an an area that has had increased exposure rate, thus my 38% rate increase. However, they have reassured me that I am getting a discount as I have not had any claims, ever.

As, I don't think they are going to budge, I think it may be time to start shopping around for some better rates. Anyone have any recommendations for insurance companies and agents in Ankeny that would be good to look at.

    Re: Ankeny Insurance Agents

Running into similar issues with Allied. Had my agent quote some other companies and it's pretty much a wash. He told me it's a hard market right now. I just left my stuff at Allied.

Don't know whether it's true or not but he mentioned a lot of people getting claims on their roof after hail storms is contributing to the rate increase.

You can probably find a better rate out there but I didn't feel like going through the hassle.

I am an agent in Ankeny. Right now all insurance for Homeowners in Iowa has gone up with almost all companies. You are seeing the adjustment for all the water claims from 2009 and 2011. It takes the companies awhile to catch up with pricing. I will tell you that they are not just going to lower your rate because you do not like it. Their rates are set and accepted by the Iowa Insurance Division, no bartering on Insurance.

I am a Independent Agent with Adamson Insurance and Associates, feel free to call me @ 515-963-1738 and I can give you some quotes. I use many comapanies, but mostly, AAA, Met Life, Celina, Integrity and West Bend when it comes to Homeowners insurance.

I completely understand that, I just think going from $650/year to $873/year is a tad ridiculous.

    Re: Ankeny Insurance Agents

Insurance is crap to me. My FIL is a really good agent (I assume from the size of his house and the trips he goes on) but I don't understand why they can't A) barter like every single other consumer service, and B) raise prices because of unrelated claims. Why should YOU have to pay more in Ankeny when YOU never had a claim and YOUR risk has not gone up? And then when you have a claim the company you pay send their own employee to "assess" the situation. Of course they are biased - their paychecks depend on not paying out. Adjusters should be only non-affiliated people.

Oh, I agree. I have seen two things, my clients home insurance going up 25-40% or staying pretty steady at the normal 5-8% range. Seems to be one or the other. Even as agents we really get no good answer about the price increases other than it has to do with high claims for past years in the area. Good luck with whatever you do, and even if you have any questions just PM me.

I do not belive that there is any insurance related service that you can barter for. I may be wrong. But you do not see how that would cause a problem. Client A gets rate B because he bartered better thna client B. In this type of business it would not work. Hey insurance is a crap shoot, there will be some people that may never have a claim in there life. They will have the best rates throught life, but they will always go up. Insurance rates do not stay constant, they will go uo over time. It is something most do not want, but most need.

I tend to believe the flooding on Skunk is the culprit and rates may be high for a couple of years. Companies need to get their money back for a region.

Dont most homeowners insurance policies not cover flooding?

    Re: Ankeny Insurance Agents

They have to spread the cost of the losses, lets say they pay to replace your roof next year because of hail and it costs 12k. Would you like them to only increase your rate to cover the loss? Probably not, you can't have it both ways. Paying for insurance sucks, until you need it, then you hope you have the best.

The rain/wind that came with the event was more than flooding and probably resulted in numerous claims that were paid.
