    Keeping Things in Perspective...

I spent some time this morning reading some of the posts from three years ago this time. After a dismal 2010 season, one and done in the Big 12 tournament, I realized how blessed we are with what Hoiberg has done in three short years. Man, those threads were terrible in how most everyone was down on the program, although it was fun rereading the threads where KG-CLONE defended Mac and his direction.

Here was a poll asking when we thought we'd ever get back to the NCAA.

The best post in that thread was isuno1fan's prediction. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

    Re: Keeping Things in Perspective...

I really liked McDermott. I was a big time defender. I might ahve been the only one hoping he wouldn't leave when he was offered the Creighton job.

But I do remember this weekend in 2010 (tourney weekend) and the **** that started to hit the fan. Hamilton leaving. Rumors of others leaving. Colvin leaving (probably being forced to leave). I remember thinking that if you couldn't get a kid who lived with the coach's son to stay, what could you do? There was an assistant leaving and one being demoted. There were lots of rumors that TJ was leaving and I honestly worried what players would leave b/c he left.

We got lucky in so many ways in 2010. First, no coach in his right mind was going to come to Iowa State in the place it was in. And what did we do? We went and hired a legend. And it turned out the guy can coach. I hope TJ stays around, but I no longer fear that we will have players bolt if he does. We have a team full of guys who like each other, like their coaches, and like Iowa State.

I remember an interview with Gary Thompson after Hoiberg was hired. I honestly think he was a little bit skeptical about how he would do. He said something like Iowa State would be lucky to win 10 games the first season and not much the 2nd and 3rd, but after that he better be showing something. Fred took his 2nd team to the NCAA.

True, this is what I told myself before the game. We are still dancing.

I think even if we had won last night it'd be emotiionally draining and ksu would have spanked us. Then we'd be kicking ourselves over how close we were.
