    Which would you choose? (Vacation)

So after 7 weeks, the travel agent has finally responded to us with options for a Caribbean trip we wanted to take this summer. Don't ask, I'm very ****** about it and would switch if we hadn't already dropped one because she was terrible, and the other two weren't very friendly over the phone. This one seemed great in person.

Unsurprisingly, two options we had liked are either sold out or sold out of higher room options (they were still available in January). After initially recommending some Mexican resorts, she has now provided three options of which only one was an island we were looking at.

Here are the things we were after.....if you went someplace that meets those, feel free to suggest!

great water/beach - don't care so much about sand color, but water clarity
    good food/drinks
preferably AI due to our like of food and drink, haha
preferably good snorkeling.....from the beach if at all possible
great natural/historical options to check out

    1. Couples Negril or Sandals Whitehouse on Jamaica

We went to another Couples resort for our honeymoon, so we were looking to try a new island this time. Liked Couples, haven't heard great things about Sandals.

    2. Anse Chastanet on St. Lucia

checks most of our options except it is expensive (meal plan does not include lunch or alcohol) and the rooms likely won't have a/c. Looking at the restaurant options.....I'm not terribly excited. St. Lucia was where we (I) originally wanted to go because of how beautiful the island is supposed to be and the activities available.

    3. Sandals Royal Bahamian in the Bahamas

one of the only islands I hadn't done a ton of research on so I know very little. Again, haven't heard great things about Sandals.

In the end I'm sure we'll be happy at whichever beach we end up lounging on, but am still interested in hearing from those who have been there or where they would rather go, based on what we are after.

What are the benefits of using a travel agent? I thought this industry died about the same time people stopped using dial up internet.

I have been to Couples Negril... PM me if you want any info on it. I would choose CSA over CN, but we got mostly for the beach. Both resorts are really nice.

oh, and no "other" option, because I'll be sad if that's what gets the most votes. "Other" voters can vote by telling me where else they would choose.

huge benefits of using an agent, they handle everything. Plus if there are any changes or last minute problems it saves you a ton of hassle.

CSA was sold out for our dates or it would have been our other Jamaican option. I am interested in anything you have to say - food, rooms, beach, activities to do (when we were HM searching we looked at doing a rum factory tour, banana plantation, and the YS Falls, I believe).

I loved the drinks at Couples and the no tipping.

^^ this and if you are not well-traveled like my husband and I, they can keep you out of the bad places and give good ideas on what is or isn't worth doing. We really liked using one last time....if this lady would have responded about a month sooner, I'd be a lot higher on her too.

No reason not to use an agent, they do not get paid from the client, they get paid from the resort/hotel+airline.

we planned our own roadtrip last summer and trip to Vegas last month. If we were traveling in the contiguous US again, we would do the same. But for international travel, I feel more comfortable having someone who has our back, so to speak.

We planned our last trip to Cancun and just gave all of the information and prices to the travel agent. She saved us a few bucks on what it would have cost us to book everything ourselves. As others have said, they can take care of any last minute changes. They also had a representative at our resort to schedule our excursions cheaper than doing it ourselves.

Make sure you hit up JJ's at the base of Copper to listen to the musical stylings of Moe Dixon.

I would say not Jamaica, but I'm biased because I did a term paper on how badly the West has exploited Jamaica with IMF loans and NAFTA....so...
