Twister Sister Summary - this Cyclone strikes again downs OU

I have to say that this is one of the best tournament teams I've seen since the '00 and '01 time period. It's a team that can hit you from anywhere. There are no weak spots on this team like recent teams of the past. As such, today's game was pure kick your butt and take names.

It all happened in the first half. The first few minutes were a back and forth affair as OU showed a bit of a sprightly step and stayed even, yes even taking an early 3 point lead 10-7 before the sisters would change gears and leave the Sooners in shock. It seemed almost a mirror image of the West Virginia game as the inside game simply dominated. The domination wasn't just in scoring, but in rebounding. At one point in the first half the sisters had a rebounding lead of 23-8. OU didn't get second chances. The sisters did. Many of you have already read or watched that Anna had a career day by hitting for 32 points. It would be easy to say that it was all about her, but this was a team victory. The first half took advantage of shots by everyone to grab the 19 point point lead they held at halftime. We all knew what the halftime speeches would be. Fennelly - remember last night and don't think OU will roll over. Coales - remember last night. We aren't done yet.

The second half would show that this team wouldn't let the Sooners back into it. For the first 8 minutes the lead actually extended to 23 and would stay in that range until nearly the end. The name of the game was get it inside. Pound it inside. The result of this aggressiveness led to foul trouble for the Sooner bigs. McFarland went out with her 3rd early in the half and later would foul out as a non factor. We our bigs were covered, they had the presence of mind to find the open player outside. Again ball movement was the rule of the day. Pass, pass, pass. They took the time to make the extra pass and it paid off. This team would end up with 23 assists for 29 made baskets. Outstanding! The game was in hand and it was nice to see the reserves get into the game and make their presence known. Z hit three free throws. Elly would make a pair of free throws. Ashley would get a great steal. Final score was a 19 point win 79-60.

    Notes
The post rotation that Coach Fen has put into place continues to work. For the most part the bigs have stayed out of foul trouble and are fresh. All are contributing. Is fun to watch the interchangeable parts work.

This was a great day for Anna Prins. 32 points from a combination of free throws, layups, short jumpers and a single 3. Add to that 8 hard fought rebounds. She was a monster today.

Pop was Pop. Got into some mild foul trouble, but again was aggressive inside and continued to take excellent feeds to get quick move layups. She has eaten the competition for lunch so far. Another double-double in the books.

Have to talk about Moody. She has had these game under control. Another masterpiece today as she broke the sophomore season record for assists by dishing out 7 compared to only ONE turnover. She is directing the band and right now doing it at a fantastic level.

Hal was the object of OU's affection today and they tried to take her out of the game. She still nearly had a double -double just the same. She always finds ways to contribute with or without the ball.

Brynn out down her smothering defense on display and was like a blanket on whoever she guarded. Add to that, she consistently found open players for buckets and complimented Moody fantastically.

So now it comes down to what Coach Fen has been asking for. A rematch with Baylor. Baylor had a very bad day today and had 24 turnovers. We needed that to happen for us! We all know how good this Baylor team can be. Yet, ISU held Baylor to its lowest point totals of the season. Can we win? Absolutely. Limit the turnovers. Move the ball. Play sticky defense. Hope that you get a good set of officials. It can happen. Tomorrow night we find out.

I wouldn't depend on the officials out there. The ones today seemed alright. I won't say any more about it than that. I wanted to say something about Brynn. If anyone caught much of her defense today, it was kind of spectacular. Everyone was solid, but I really like how Prins has played the offensive boards in this tournament. Finally, thought I better say something about Kidd. What a find she was! She is not only a great basketball player, but smart and relentless.

Thanks for the post, and don't have too much fun over there. I have an uncle and all of his family that live in the Dallas area. I kind of wish I could have gone to see them, but not enough time these days.

Oh crap! I meant to say some things about Kidd. I took the time to tell her parents, but slipped up here. This Sister has a knack of getting herself into good position to get boards. As her mom said, she wouldn't want to fight her for a board! Ill keep comparing her to Meghan Taylor on the rebounding front. She hit some key points and was a reliable relief for Moody on the point. She is playing some real confidence right now.

The record broken by Nikki is for ISU single season assists overall, not just as a sophomore. It was set in 2007 by Medders when she was a senior. All the more significant for Nikki to break it.

She is apparently also close to breaking the Big 12 sophomore record.

    1. After coming back against Okie State proving they can win 8 vs. 5, they now know they can beat anyone when on their A game

    2. If Prins plays the same tomorrow as she did today, I like our chances against Baylor. She's just gotta not be soft against Griner.

When she clamps onto one of those rebounds no one is getting it away from her.

I know this is kind of side-tracking the thread, but whats our starting 5 when Buckley gets on campus? Do we go small? Because we don't have any height except for Jordan Jensen next year.

I'll be doing a write up on that after this season ends. Hope you can wait!

Per a Steyer tweet, Jordan Jensen was in the stands. Great to see!

Moody is 11 assists shy of breaking the Big 12 sophomore record for assists in a season, which was set by OSU's Tiffany Bias last season.

-Be kind. That is something you will never regret. You will never say to yourself when you are old "I wish I was not good to that person".
