    ***Official Tax Season Complaining Thread***

I hate doing taxes. I hate taxes, and I hate tax preparation software.

    That is all.

Share your tax season complaints, we'll all be miserable together.

<pre-emptive warning about politics to keep this from getting banished to the cave, just keep it to tax season specifically>

When we first got married we tried the tax prep software and it was a horrible, horrible experience. Get one $35 dividend check from a farm coop and the software melted down.

The best $200 we spend all year is the check we write to our tax person. She tells us what records to keep. We keep them. We bring all the paperwork, sit in her office for 45 minutes one day a year, and viola, the taxes are done! She gives us advice for the coming year, and we can call her throughout the year to ask question *** they pop up (i.e. take the company car or stick with the mileage reimbursement on personal car?)

And, you can write off the cost of the tax prep. Life is good.

The dman IRS wouldn't take my 2011 return becuase some else filed under my name. They still owe me money from 2011 and they still haven't actually processed my return. I am not realy happy about that situation but I figure no reason to get stressed sound like it will resolved in a month or two.

This weekend I go to efile. Turbo tax tell me I need a pin. The ******* IRS wont give me a pin probably because the information in their system doesnt match mine it matches the dude that stole my identity. Nor does the AGI match. Awesome looks like I get to mail it in.

Let this be a lesson never ever overpay your taxes.

The wife mentioned that, but our problem is the 'oh crap, where did we put X', which would only be worse when sitting at the tax person's place missing that one slip of paper.

The other thing is the effing places that don't send you your sheets anymore, you have to get them online. My old habit was throw everything in one pile as it came in the mail, then sit down and burn thru it in an hour or two one weekend. Now, I go thru it one weekend, noting what crap I'm missing, then locate all the missing stuff the next week (trying to remember a hundred login ID's and passwords) and button up the following weekend.

Although I'm not in his fan club, taxes sucked before the current administration.

Sigh. We need to do that soon. Luckily we don't have all those extras that make taxes really a pain - like kids, house, and all that stuff 00clone mentioned.

Though watching my parents do farm taxes for years, mine will never, ever be that complicated, so I will try to be thankful for that.

I hate writing a check big enough to send all my kids to college for the year.

Re: ***Official Tax Season Complaining Thread***

I have a BS in engineering and an MBA, and I won't do my taxes because it would take too long and I'd be afraid to screw it up and end up in Club Fed.

I'd love tax reform in the form of SIMPLIFICATION. Unfortunately it will never happen because Congress (both parties - not being ideological here) enjoys a great deal of power by handing out the tax favors to special interests. Congress would never cede that power; who would take them on "fact-finding" missions to Hawaii?

I had them prepared for me this year.

My internship was in a state where I was not a resident. So I had to pay in income tax for my state of residence, even though I only spent a grand total of probably less than a month there the past year.

But I got a pretty good refund on federal and state, so overall I'm happy

ugh, the two years that I interned in WI, went to school and worked at ISU, and had IL has my home state were really fun. <sarcasm>. Three states that I had to file with. Two to get money back, and one to pay.
