    Wes Johnson update

    per cyclones.com

-ISUís top returning scorer from a year ago Wesley Johnson has yet to play a game this season...he has been sidelined with a bone bruise in his foot and will likely see his first action against UNI.

Our next 6 games look winable.

UNI will be a tough test, but its in Hilton
OSU is 2-2 after losses against Alaska Fairbanks and Colorado St.
Iowa sucks and it is in Hilton
The Drake game could be a tough spot at the Knapp Center and trying to coral Josh Young
Then come 2 crap teams prior to leaving for Vegas.

Going to Vegas 8-2 would make my trip a lot more optimistic.

    Re: Wes Johnson update

I would suggest that evey game is going to be a challenge for ISU until the post game gets a little more stout.

    Re: Wes Johnson update

I dont think its the post game thats the problem. The opposing coaches are zoning us and crashing inside so we cant get touches inside and forcing us to shoot a 3(which we happen to be bad at). Our wing players can barely get a pass into Brackins or Jiri without it being deflected or knocked away for a TO.

Its kinda hard playing 3 on 5, or 2 on 4. The coaches need to find a way to get the ball inside against the defenses were facing. This is why were forced to shoot soo many ugly 3's. Maybe more movement would help?

I agree. I think our posts would be just fine, but the pressure up top is making any entry passes to the post difficult. I think if we set some back screens or made some back cuts this would loosen up.

Dribble penetration also helps, but only Diante seems to be able to do this so far. Wesley's return will hopefully solve some of these problems.

I guess I consider getting the ball into post as part of the post game. Also, Hubalek and Thompson aren't exactly making stellar moves when they do get the ball.

You're right about this, too. But it is amazing how good a post guy can look when he gets the ball in position to score. Good guards really make the big guys look good.

    Re: Wes Johnson update

I saw Wesley at the Mall in a boot on 11/10 about 6 hours before the Centenary game. Some people stopped him and asked him what was wrong, and he said ankle sprain and that he would be back for the Bradley game for sure. I was then really optimistic when I saw Wesley on the sidelines during the Centenary game without the boot. I was then shocked he didn't play against Bradley and more shocked when he didn't play against Minnesota.

As I sit here today i'm guessing that GMac wanted him 100% for UNI as he does not want to lose to them again. After watching the Minnesota game we have a lot of work to do.

Like you all have said we need Wesley back BAD!!!

    Re: Wes Johnson update

I think getting back Wes J will really show how important he is to us. He will reduce the amount of double teams on our guards and free up our bigs to an extent.

Plus we add a decent ball handler and solid shooter. He is the type of player that can really change the game just by being on the court. Not necessarily because he dominates the game, but the fact that he helps free up others.

    Re: Wes Johnson update

I just hope Wes is healthy enough to get some defensive rebounds. He would have really helped there and really cut down on some second chance points for the other team over the last two.

I don't know what to expect out of him, obviously he's not going to be 100%. Sometimes shooting can suffer when you're trying to get lift off of a sore ankle for jump shots as well.

I would disagree and say that doesn't matter if we can't even have guards bring the ball down the court or even get the ball to the post players.
