What is it about the home court

In College BBall moreso than any other sport that the homecourt is such a big advantage. What is the main factor. Its a huge deal.

Re: What is it about the home court

I've studied this for a class in the past, and the numbers suggest that a huge, huge majority - perhaps the entirety - of home field/home court advantage has to do with officiating. Home teams getting calls at home, affected by the crowd response.

College basketball has the most "home court advantage" because it has the worst officials.

I'm not talking just about Iowa State. College Bball as a whole. Whether you play in an 80% empty arena or a packed house, it seams like teams play a ton better at home.

Several factors play into the officiating in bball. Tons of judgement calls in a very fast paced game and a small area so the crowd can usually see everything going on, unlike football where a call away from the ball doesn't get seen by anyone until the replay

Probably a number of factors. The obvious answer would be the crowd effect since they sit right next to the floor and players easily hear what fans say. Friendly fans give you a lift and hostile fans try to tear you down. But just as important I think is the familiar home court gives players shooting confidence. Doesn't mean you can't shoot well on the road, but the familiar surroundings make it easier to shoot at home. Then throw in the officials tendency to want to please the home crowd and you've got quite an advantage. Not rocket science but it makes sense to me anyway.

yes......Colorado with it's awful program has a black hole for a venue. Went to the ISU-CU game in 1995 (Fred's/Beechum/Meyer last season) Great team---but we lost to that crap CU team and we played awful in that place

horrible place to attend a game too. It seemed more times than not that place zapped the energy out of ISU's squad with CU's 3500 fans

A combination of everything everybody has mentioned plus the fact that the 3 point shot gives anybody a chance. But I agree its something with the crowd noise and the adrenaline rush it gives the players.

Re: What is it about the home court

I think it's combination of a change in routine when on the road, officiating, and crowd noise, and I think crowd noise is probably the least important of the 3.

Those numbers last year that showed that every B12 team shot more FTs (or something like that) at home compared to the road were pretty telling.

What venues to the kids bus too? Do they go all the way to Oklahoma (I doubt it), I think they bus to Lawerence and Manhattan don't they. Traveling drains me so I assume it doesnt help.

It's like when you were a kid and could drain shots all day in your own driveway, but when you go to your buddy's house and play on his hoop it's not as easy.

Some of it is travel, staying in hotels. Some of it being in a gym you're not used too, and getting used to the backdrop and rims. Some of it is the crowd.
