54 Second Half Points to WVU

I know Fred is emphasizing an NBA style play and gives his guys alot of freedom on the offensive end- but to give up 54 points in a half is two things
    1. Zero effort by the players on D
    2. Lack of teaching by the couching staff. This isn't hyperbole- ISU plays some of the worst on ball defense of ANY team.

If ISU is going to compete for Big12 titles, Fred needs to put a little more emphasis on D.

And we gave up 20 first half points! Why the hell was Fred over emphasizing D in the first half!

Re: 54 Second Half Points to WVU

As strange as it may sound it was actually an offense problem. 14 second half ISU turnovers accounted for about half of those second half WVU points.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

I don't care if we give up 120 points as long as we score 121

Can't complain about a road win too much, but I get your point. I bet Fred emphasizes D more next year. We aren't that far off from being a 2-3 seed. We just need about 2-3 more stops per game

    I agree with you completely.

If this was a one time fluke, then no big deal, but it keeps happening all the time. We got by with it today against a really bad WV team, but as we've seen, it doesn't work against good teams like KU and OSU.

When we get leads, we absolutely quit playing defense at all. Yes, WV hit their 3's, but did anyone notice that they were completely wide open 3's too.

And don't get me started on all the turnovers this team continues to have with any kind of pressure defense. That MUST stop too. KL was nothing but a turnover waiting to happen in the last 3 mins of the game today. You can't have that from your starting PG. It was just stupid, and it nearly cost us an easy win.

Like I said, if it was a one time deal, then who cares. But it happens all the time.

Re: 54 Second Half Points to WVU

When you turn the ball over again and again and the other team hits 9 or 10 straight 3s its easy to have a bad half...

Turnovers were a problem, but it was a road game and a Senior night (well day) game. We survived the comeback. All is ok.

We won. It was beautiful. It was ugly. Moving on to the conference tourney.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Re: 54 Second Half Points to WVU

We got some terrible matchups on the perimeter and it doesn't help us defend the arc. Plus we got a couple guys that in reality aren't great defenders, never will be.

Some of the stuff that makes us very hard to match up with for other teams, makes it harder for us to defend well.
