    Bubu

    Maybe a dumb question, but was Bubu the point on the great Ames HS team? If so was he a standout?

    From what I remember about Bubu in highscool, he provided alot of the same things he does for the team now. He was a good defender and decent distributor who had the quickness to get to the rim from time-to-time. I wouldn't say he was a standout, which is understandable considering the other talent on that team.

    He was solid, but it is hard to stand out on a team with Harrison Barnes and Doug McDermott.

    When you think about it, that's pretty amazing for a town the size of Ames - to have 3 Division 1 players on the same team; one being the #1 recruit in the Country, another being a candidate for NCAA MBB player of the year and the third possibly a starting PG for a major conference team by the end of his college career.

    I remember watching the title game and thinking he was really solid. He, McDermott and a couple kids from Linn-Mar(?) looked better than Barnes that night. If my memory serves. That was a good high school basketball team. Two first round NBA picks (if Doug goes that high) and a solid Big 12 player. Not too bad. The Paige kid is playing pretty well for UNC too this year. Good for the state. I guess.

    Yes, he was one class ahead of Harrison and Doug, so Bubu's SR year HB and Doug were JR's. He was very good for a HS PG, but not top 100 type guy by any means. I think he got an offer from Princeton and possibly a couple of other mid-low major type schools, IIRC.

    His senior year, Ames High had an amazing team.

    I don't remember it that way. I remember HB with several high flying dunks. HB was clearly the best player on the floor in that game, IMO.

    I think he did, but Paige was a SO at that time as I recall, and you could certainly tell that Paige had a very high ceiling.

    Then my memory does not serve. I do remember being impressed by the talent on both teams. I probably hadn't seen a high school game in 20 years at that point though.

    Kid in one of my classes tried telling my that Ames team is one of the top 5 greatest HS teams ever. I told him to calm down, they were easily the greatest Iowa team ever, but there are teams in Chicago, LA, Houston, Etc. that have 6-7 kids go D1 every other year.
