First time at Texas Roadhouse - Disappointed

The way you guys talk about this place, you thought it would be the best thing since sliced bread.

The bread/butter was delicious. Those infamous peanuts tasted old. Th steak was just ok, nothing to write home about. The peach lemonade was pretty good.

You guys say you wait 1 hour+ for that place, why? I wouldn't go out of my way to go back there.

If we're talking chain steak places:

    Longhorn>Outback>Lone Star>Texas Roadhouse

Yeah...we actually went to the one in Johnston on Friday. I have vowed to never go back to this place as it is a freaking chaotic mess, but got talked into going with some people who have never been there. Did call ahead seating at 5:30, they said it would be 30-45 minutes. We got there at 6PM, and didn't get a seat until 7:30 PM. Service was horrible, experience overall sucked, and really made me realize how much a ******* hate that place.

Have not been to Longhorn, but Roadhouse is WAY better than those other two, at least in my experience. And we don't wait long if we call ahead.

You still wait just as long, you just are able wait in other places.

This surprises me, because i always felt like most reviews of it on here were fairy 'meh'. I mean its steak, so its not going to be horrible unless they totally **** it up, but there's nothing special about it, and certainly not worth the wait you usually see there, and i thought that was pretty much the general agreement around here.

Texas Rhoadhouse is over rated in my opinion.

It's not bad, comparable with any of the other chain steak places, but if you're waiting for an hour or more to eat there you're probably going to be disappointed.

The thing that always gets me is that the "Call Ahead Seating", isn't, well, "Call Ahead Seating"

You're calling in basically to reserve "a place in the line of people waiting to get in line."

The two times I've been then you call head and they tell you what time to come, and then when you get there you get another number that they'll call later. Then you actually get a seat.

Isn't that exactly what they say it is?

    Edit: Just checked and yes.

You can Call Ahead to shorten your wait! Just give us a call and we'll add your name to the wait list, make sure to let us know of any special needs. Write down your arrival time and confirmation number to bring with you. Once your entire party has arrived at Texas Roadhouse, check in at the host stand and we'll give you the wait time remaining.
Call Ahead Seating is not a reservation, but it's a great way to shorten your wait time in the restaurant.

Re: First time at Texas Roadhouse - Disappointed

The Texas Roadhouse in Cedar Falls is my favorite of the steak restaurants in the area. I was very unimpressed with the Longhorn steakhouse and the local longstanding isn't the best I've been to.

The key for me is to avoid the lower end steaks. We usually end up with the boneless ribeye or porterhouse. My wife and I typically share the steak with a side order of ribs.

I enjoy it, it has good quality steak and other meats for a descent price, good appetizers, awesome rolls and butter. It's not my favorite place, but it is good imo for a chain.

Just because that's what they say it is, doesn't mean it makes any sense.

Why not just tell people to show up 20 minutes late than what they are and seat them, especially considering they don't have a waiting area for more than about 6 people to begin with?
