    McIlroy withdraws

Honda Classic -- Rory McIlroy walks off course at 7 over par - ESPN

Looks like Rory withdrew from the Honda. What are your guys thoughts? I've had wisdom teeth problems and it's not fun.

Just going out on a limb here, but if he was -7 I bet his teeth wouldn't be hurting as bad.

I wish I could just quit and go home on a bad day. This is pretty weak

You probably have sick days, you should consult with your HR department.

Looks more like he quit because he was playing horrible more than because he was sick (toothpain). Pretty much gave up.

    Re: McIlroy withdraws

If Tiger withdrew under these circumstances it would be a huge story. Rory does it and it's meh. Wisdom teeth pain would be distracting but not distracting enough for him to be 7 over in 8 holes. Followed by the comment about not being mentally right. He's still a young guy and he's showing it today.

Rory is so up and down. Last year people questioned him and then he finished the season in heroic fashion. No reason to think he won't play great again relatively soon.

It's possible, but you're assuming the poor play caused the "tooth pain" and not the opposite.

I'm sure he had toothpain, but when you say things like this:

"I'm not in a great place mentally. I can't really say much, guys. I'm just in a bad place mentally."
and then later tweeted about toothpain sounds like he was trying to cover himself for quitting. Maybe I'm wrong, but when you're #1 in the world you should try and stick it out. There are people who have tougher jobs than golfing that stick it out everyday and get paid much less

I think it is more like "these new Nike clubs I have to play are a pain in the ***, which hurts all the way to my teeth".

    Re: McIlroy withdraws

Let's face it, Rory McIlroy will go down as one of the toughest athletes to every play sports. He gutted out 8 holes today but simply couldn't play through the pain of a troublesome wisdom tooth. This effort is right up there next to Michael Jordan playing with the flu and Kerri Strug nailing a vault in the Olympics with a bad ankle.

    Golf clap everyone

Does anyone else see McIlroy fading into the distance soon? Like he's not going to be a serious #1 golfer?

No. And I hope you were being sarcastic with this comment. His swing is unreal. He'll be around for a long time.
