Cool A possible alternative to desperation "3" attempts as clock is winding down?

ALSO, any thoughts about going to strategically fouling in some of these "close-out" situations? I realize that the philosophy for adopting a certain strategy across the board so that statistically "things are bound to balance out" has significant merit, BUT...

That's not a bad idea, but I think Edney's eligibility is up already.

Getting a layup is all fine and good, but also remember that KU still had Withey on the floor, one of the most prolific shot blockers in the NCAA who rarely gets called for fouls. Having a 5-10 or 5-11 guard take it to a 7 footer who is waiting for him under the basket could very likely yield the same result as the heave he put up there.

Going the full length of the court in 4 seconds and getting to the hoop is not always easy.

The refs had a long huddle after the blown charge no-call/Niang reach foul and likely KNEW they screwed up. We needed someone to get the ball near the basket and draw some contact and be shooting free throws to win it. As Lucious was half-trotting toward our end to get in some space, I was yelling at him to drive and dish but instead he floats downcourt for a 30' footer. Not a great play, that's certain.

To be fair Fred has tried Tyrus, Will and Korie in end of game situations. Will teamed up with Georges once to get the W. Most coaches bet on their seniors because the record is theirs for the ages. I think the coaches are searching for a solution, it just feels like our seniors are snake bit. We could switch it up one more time and try Anthony.

Yea I'm not sold on that. If anything the refs would have called us for a charge on a last second layup. Refs made a lot of other obvious bad calls other than the one at the very end.

I wouldn't be surprised if the play call would have been different (eg: attacking the basket) if Withey had not been in the game - which he shouldn't have been based on the crap call giving fro-boy Young the foul instead of Withey.

Who knows - we can speculate until the pain goes away, but that might be a while.

It doesn't seem like many players work on the bank shot these days. However, if you do practice that Edney shot, and the situation sets itself up for it, IMO you can hit it 90+% of the time, even over much taller Withey-like players. In fact it's ideally suited for that because you don't have to worry about precisely judging the distance. Just get the ball up on the glass, on target, and let the back board do the work for you. Once you get the hang of it, it's darn near impossible to miss a straight-on bank shot.

I wish I would have had a coach along the way who had encouraged the use of the bank shot (for other than layups). I started using it a few years ago, and improved my FG% by at least 10%. IMO, using the back board makes a good number of shots easier.
