I think Ferentz will leave Iowa if...

If he's offered the Michigan job, he's gone. He's listed as the number two choice on most message boards right now. And why wouldn't he leave:
-Michigan has a built in top recruiting class every year
-Ferentz teams have been booed off the field the past two seasons, and his prospects are not that much better next season
-He if facing a potential investigation on how he and the athletic department handled a sexual assault case
-He is facing immense pressure to fire one or more of his coordinators, and he is a fiercely loyal man
-He seems emotionally spent at Iowa, and may well want some new scenery.

As for the money issue, that is NO issue at that level. He would have plenty at a Michigan. I believe he has already talked with them and if he is offered the job, will take it.
His credentials are impressive at Iowa, and I believe he would do well at Michigan.

Kirk would be better choice than Les Miles for Michigan. Not sure why, just feel so. CyBookie time?

A coworker and I were discussing this today. The cupboard is BARE at Iowa - why not bounce now with some good seasons under your belt (albeit a few years ago)? A large part of the fan base still loves him, so he'll still have a decent legacy.

    While I'm not disagreeing.....

    - UM fans have booed their team more often that Iowa fans have

    -Investigation? No.

-KF's buy-out is huge, and UM would have to have been shut down by Les first.

But, we'll see. This is the first time I really can actually imagine him leaving.

Kirk has less miles to travel to get to Michigan.

If he's offered the Michigan job
I will quit being a Michigan fan. He is far and away the LAST person I want manning the helm in Ann Arbor. Michigan can and will get a better man for the job.

    2 questions:

"-He is facing a potential investigation on how he and the athletic department handled a sexual assault case"

letsgostate - how do you know this?

    "-Investigation? No"

southernhawk - how do you know this?

That's a good question. I don't know there will be an investigation, but i do know:
    1. An Iowa Regent has asked for the facts in the investigation (that has been well publicized.
    2. I know the DM Register has a reporter or reporters on the story looking at the time line for all of this (this comes directly from the Managing Editor of the paper)
    3. Iowa City Blogs have been full of this story, and not in a favorable light for the university. (I can provide links if you want)
    4. As an observer, the current policy is terrible. To turn a reported sexual assault over to the athletic department is crazy. That may be the rules, but even that will be looked at in the upcoming weeks. That alone is worth changing.
Can Iowa keep the lid on this until the recruiting deadline. Doubtful. Ferentz may be totally innocent in all of this as well as the unversity. But it's just more negative publicity they don't need right now.

I honestly think Iowa will bounce back - maybe not next season, but 2 years from now I think they'll be a pretty good team. There is a ton of youth on that team.

Yeah, they might make it to the Detroit Motor City Bowl in 2010, if you call that bounceback. They have to start playing OSU and Michigan soon. Hope they get that tough Central Michigan off their schedule. Maybe if Kirk goes, they can hire the CMU coach.

    Kirk,
Shall he stay or shall he go? Cybookie time?

I guess I do not see Kirk as a 'hot name' anymore. What has he done the last 3 seasons but underachieve in an underachieving conference.

If you ask most people, the cupboard isn't bare at Iowa. They played 31 freshmen and 15 sophomores this year, and somehow managed to win 4 of their last 6 games. Plus, their last 3 recruiting classes have been pretty good ones. So I don't think talent is the issue. I just think it's youth. If Ferentz doesn't have that team back to 8 wins next year, with that schedule, the seat over in Iowa City will be roasting.

Now that LSU has 2 losses and is out of the Nat'l Chamionship, does that make it easier for Les Miles to take the Michigan job?
