    Last play of regulation

How come we didn't inbound the ball and call timeout. Thus, allowing us to run an inbound play at midcourt? Kind of like what Texas did to us earlier in the year.

    Re: Last play of regulation

I was surprised that they didn't at least try to drive to the basket and either make the shot or pick up a foul call. But seeing how the refs were calling the last 5 minutes they could have murdered Lucious on the court and somehow would have been a technical on ISU for having blood on the court. So hoping for a foul call was probably wishful thinking.

Looking at it though ISU was better from 3 than 2 last night so why not try what was working I guess.

I think Fred had called his last timeout prior to the last freethrow.

I was thinking the same thing. Why not drive hard to the basket instead of settling for a long three? Very frustrating.

    Re: Last play of regulation

We called a timeout after Johnson's first free throw. Hoiberg was drawing up something during that TO.

But I highly doubt it was for Lucious to dribble up the court at 3/4 speed and try to bank in a long three.

    Re: Last play of regulation

That was our last chance to win it, and we knew it. Once it went to overtime, there was no way we were going to win. We were too shell shocked, thanks to the refs and johnsons wild miraculous 3s

I am pretty sure we still had one timeout.

I certainly didn't watch the overtime The **** poor effort on that last play told me all I need to know. We had a fork in us.

    Re: Last play of regulation

We had 2 timeouts left. Fred called one between free throws, which left us with one when we got the ball back. Get it to half court and call a timeout. Draw up a play from there. Surely, since he has all the NBA experience, he could come up with an out of bounds play from half court. That's what a lot of NBA games come down to.

We had 1 left. But had just used one after Johnson's first three throw.

Nice, I was worried someone wouldn't whine about not using all of our time outs. As I've said before, this team is totally undefeated right now if Hoiberg could just learn how to use timeouts wisely.

I'd like to see this play again because I've only seen it once, in real time. But I recall being surprised at Lucious' body language and what I perceived as a lack of urgency. It was as if he had already conceded that the game was going to OT. There were still five seconds left...as we well know from being on the short end of this a few times now, five seconds is an eternity, even having to dribble the length of the court. And if memory serves he pulled up for the shot with time remaining for another dribble or two.

Whether it's a coaching thing or execution thing, it's very frustrating. We also ran a pretty poorly executed final shot at Oklahoma State, I think it was. Maybe Texas. Maybe both.

    Re: Last play of regulation

Our Best PG had the ball...He "skipped" up the court with 5 seconds left and us in the bonus.
He should have been doing what Johnson was doing the past 2 mins and sprinting up the court causing weirdness.

Instead we settled for a skipper and 26 foot contested jumper.

He sprints up the court and either gets a layup/foul ----or kicks to a shooter for a decent shot.

This is what is killing ISU right now. The ability to play smart. Yes I get we shoot 3's and we are good at it. But does that mean we need to shoot them with 25 seconds on the shot clock witha 5 point lead. and when 3 of their best players have 3-4 fouls?

Shoot 3's with a green light with the ability to understand the game is all I am asking.
