    Parking

Parking for bball games has turned into a fiasco. Got there 30 minutes before tip and parked east/southeast football stadium lot (s6). Never been this bad. I don't think we suddenly sold 5,000 more tickets did we? Discuss please...

    Re: Parking

It looked like some sort of dance thing was going on at Stephens at the same time that was jamming up the parking lot. Not pretty.

    Re: Parking

Not to mention the 100s of empty spots in the donor sections. I have no problem with reserved spots for donors but apparently we have no clue how many need to be reserved.

    Re: Parking

    Three thoughts on this:

    1. If walking from JTS to Hilton is a huge issue for you, you should look into a handicapped pass.
    2. Parking at Hilton is way better than parking at many other basketball arenas where you have to walk all the way across campus to get there.
    3. Getting out can take forever and I think it's a ploy by Learfield to drive up ratings on the post game show.

All in all, I'll take a long walk and wait to get out in exchange for a full Hilton any day.

    Re: Parking

The parking itself is very good.
Getting people out is very bad. Some of that surely has to do with the large crowds we draw. Some of that has to do with some poor organization by the traffic control people, especially on the south side.

Does CyRide do any special basketball game routes?
It would make sense to use somewhere that's got a lot of spots-maybe Vet Med/Research Park and have dedicated buses running between them and make sure that they can get in and out of Hilton quickly to get people back and forth.

they announced "sold out", but big empty areas behind cyclone alley.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than selfish and worry about my liver."

You could just donate and not have to worry about the possibility of parking far away.....

Park anywhere along the red route (#1). There's a stop right by the Hilton marquee, on both sides of Lincoln Way. Runs every 20 minutes on Saturdays.

It's about 12-13 minutes from the West Ames Hy-Vee to Hilton, and 15 minutes from North Grand Mall to Hilton.

Gee, thanks. Not sure why I hadn't thought of that simple solution.

For all you wise *****, I was simply wondering what has changed recently. If it is due to other events, fine. If not, I'd like to understand what is causing the cluster.

There were other events at Scheman and Stephens today, and Scheman/Stephens/Fisher last week. For lack of a better term, the Iowa State Center still "controls" the A and B lots. That's why those are general public/non-donor parking for MBB.

    Re: Parking

I'm sure all the reasons mentioned above have some validity, but truly, getting in and out is much worse this year. I do think this is a good problem to have because it's in part because people are coming to the games in droves, even the blow outs like today, but it is also clear to me that the folks managing this have changed something up and it's not working.

    Re: Parking

It hasn't been a huge problem this season, but the biggest change is C6 and D4 have turned for GA lots to Donor lots, which in turn has pushed a lot pf people to parking in the Jack Trice lots. Like I said, has not been a huge issue, but definitely a noticeable change for those of us who used to ALWAYS park in those lots.

    Re: Parking

I've found that parking on North Riverside Drive is much easier. The walk is comparable to most spots in the parking lot and it is a lot quicker getting out compared to the lots.
