Could Ejim average a double double?

With 5 games left in the regular season, Ejim needs 62 rebounds (12.4 per game) and 24 points to average a double double. Austin is the only other player that could do the same, but he needs 70 boards in the last 5 games.

I think the first 4 spots on the Big 12 First Team are sewn up (Jackson, McLemore, Smart, and McGruder). That 5th spot could legitimately go to a lot of different players, and it will probably come down to how each finishes the season. IMO, Ejim should be in that conversation if he can grab 62 more boards.

It's a tall order... will he do it?

62 rebounds? Pfffffft. He should get that in 3 and a half games.

He only needs 51 boards and 30 points in the next 5 games to average a double double in conference play; that's 6 points and 10.2 boards per game.

That would be one of the most impressive stretches of basketball in recent memory. Especially considering some of the teams he would have to do it against.

What I am only slightly more interested in knowing is, will McGee break Dedric's 3-pt record?

Re: Could Ejim average a double double?

I think Ejim should be a first team selection and it has nothing to do with what he has done "for his size." He leads the league in rebounding and scores 12 per. That's pretty outstanding no matter your size/position. The problem is he won't be selected because they will take someone like Withey or Austin.

There is a 0.01% chance that Withey is not 1st Team Big 12.

If they don't finish in 1st place, it would be a shame to see 2 KU players on 1st Team.

I generally don't make a lot of serious predictions, but I've got a feeling that Mel is going to have a monster rebounding game against KU, like over 15 rebounds - flirting with 20.

Withey is a lock for 1st team. Most important defender in league on the best team in the league.

Ejim and Clyburn will be 2nd team guys.

Re: Could Ejim average a double double?

There have only been 14 instances in ISU history of a player averaging 10+ rebounds per game in a season. The last was Dean Uthoff in 78-79.

In all of those instances each player also averaged 10+ points per game so Uthoff is also the last to average a double double.

Gilstrap averaged a double double in Big 12 play. Very underrated player

Ironic that he is friends with Kantrail Horton, another of ISU's most underrated players.

Yeah he was. Funny how important he was considered to be on a nightly basis and until recently a lot of people could just take or leave Ejim. His stat line is pretty good outside of turnovers.

He was the last one in the ballpark of 10+ reb per game for a full season at 9.3
