    The End of Bracket Busters

This weekend will probably be the last installment of bracket busters. Most know what it was, but for those that do not, it was a way to get Mid Majors tv time to play against other top mid majors. It was a great idea in the beginning, getting the top mid majors who could not get prime time matchups great matchups. However, lately it has gotten too large, with way too many teams who have no chance to make the tournament playing bracket buster games, and the games have hurt more mid majors than helped them. However, it was a great idea, and this weekend here are the top games to watch.

Akron vs. NDSU - Akron dominated and could be an At- Large selection.
Long Beach State vs. Stephen F. Austin - Good win by Stephen F. Austin. The Beach not that great this year.
Eastern Kentucky vs. Valparaiso - Valparaiso dominated.
Montana vs. Davidson - Great game, and good win by Davidson.
Wichita State vs. Detroit - Wichita State showed it is a dangerous team.
St. Mary's vs. Creighton - Nice win by Saint Mary's.
    Murray State vs. SDSU
    Denver vs. Northern Iowa
    Ohio vs. Belmont

    Non-Bracket Buster Mid Majors
Southern Miss vs. Memphis - Memphis is on fire!
Butler vs. St.Louis - St. Louis is on fire. Dangerous team.9 game winning streak.
VCU vs. Xavier - No luck for the X's.
New Mexico vs. Colorado State - New Mexico looks GOOD.

I'd kinda like to watch that NM vs CSU game. SAlford vs. LE. Should be interesting.

The only thing I have ever wanted was to be Pete Taylor......once.

I always thought it was a stupid concept. Who cares. Bracket Busters is exacly that, a Tournament thing not a regular season thing. The only time mid majors matter is when they're actually in the tournament. Don't try and fabricate something. I'll watch you in March in the 1st round, not Feb

Re: The End of Bracket Busters

This was one of ESPN's better ideas. As much as I dislike ESPN, they have had a very positive influence on more competitive non-conf schedules throughout college basketball. In the early to mid 90's there were a lot fewer marquee non-conf games as the thinking was just find the easiest way to get 20 wins and your in the tournament. With the Big Ten-ACC challenge, Bracket Busters, and through deals with many of the expempt tournaments there has been a large increase in the number of quality non-conf matchups.

I don't like basketball enough to watch schools I don't care about playing against schools I don't care about.

Pretty good ending to the Iona vs. Indiana State game. Good beginning to bracket busters.

I can see a scenario where Larry will eventually win the MWC two times in a row with an Elite 8 run and then immediately after Alford will claim to be the major program in the MWC conference.

Re: The End of Bracket Busters

The bracket busters are great, but i agree its gotten a bit too large. I really wish they would do it with the power conferences as well. Even if it was just a weekend in Feb where everyone scheduled non conference games, i think that would be cool.

Not sure they could have selected teams much better, the MWC has moved itself way outside of mid major territory. The biggest problem is they need to move it back a few weeks.

    Nice roundup.

I agree, Busters has probably outlived its original allure & purpose.

Need to make it about eight teams that have a realistic shot
